Just seen this prediction from my usual weather guy on Twitter.
Any thoughts?

Cloudy here. Travelling west to east. Still very warm. Managed to keep it down to only 28 in the flat. Quite bearable though I got lots of work done this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 21:22:52

I climbed Ben Nevis when it was 30+ It was not the right weather for that!

dementedma Sat 29-Jun-19 21:21:40

This is when living in Scotland is utterly shit. I would love a heatwave.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 21:14:07

Not especially Arti.

I reached 33c on my weather station. It didn't feel that hot though with the breeze. Saw a lot of lobster coloured people who are going to feel very sorry for themselves tomorrow!

The hottest place today seems to have been Battersea which reached 34.3c.

EducatingArti Sat 29-Jun-19 18:51:14

Us the pressure particularly high at the moment? My ears feel funny!

GloriaSmud Sat 29-Jun-19 18:39:36

My weather station is measuring 31.7C here (Leicester) at the moment.

blamethecat ~ this has been caused by a blast of heat coming from the Sahara region. Europe has had it as it's moved northwards over the last week and now it's hit us but only for 24 hours or so. Overnight, a front moves from west-east direction so tomorrow will be far more pleasant and fresher.

blamethecat Sat 29-Jun-19 11:04:46

I am feeling quite dense by not understanding how the temperature can spike by around 10 degrees for one day ?

BlackeyedGruesome Sat 29-Jun-19 11:00:03

I have already stripped the wallpaper on the one bit of wall that was the next bit. I need to wash up before it gets too hot in the kitchen.

BlackeyedGruesome Sat 29-Jun-19 10:47:03

I had to shut the windows at 10.30 as it was warmer outside than in. Curtains will be shut as soon as the sun comes round.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 00:29:20

Thereabouts Cassort.

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 21:19:09

Thanks, I will. grin

Cassort Fri 28-Jun-19 20:37:58

Super - make sure she brings a few bottles of water with her if she's determined to go.

Cassort Fri 28-Jun-19 20:36:37

My phone weather widget is telling me 33 degrees tomorrow; 10 degrees warmer than today. Is this right?

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 20:34:53

Thanks a million OYBK.

On another matter, I am desperately trying to persuade my 82-yr-old mother who has Parkinson's and is exhausted after a family trauma not to travel by herself via public transport to a field in Hampshire 160 miles away tomorrow (wedding). I can't go with her. I'm pretty sure she'll keel over, but she's a wicked old trout and determined. Can anyone think of anything to put her off?

BlackeyedGruesome Fri 28-Jun-19 20:26:03

wind will evapourate the sweat/moisture quicker as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 19:02:57

Not sure who you are disagreeing with Cassian?

The wind will make things feel cooler if you aren't in a sheltered spot. That is true smile I was just feeling a bit annoyed by the wind being super slammy with my doors! But I think people will probably therefore underestimate how hot it is and not drink enough.

It's a good question about the BBC. I think it's because it's very hard to prove that any particular single event is down to climate change. So while we can say it probably is, that's because we are looking at the increasing number of records being broken and it's the accumulation of extreme events that point to climate change.

It does need to be said explicitly and loudly though that this is climate change and these extreme events will keep occurring. It will cause deaths, it will destabilise populations and if we don't do something about it now it will get much worse.

CassianAndor Fri 28-Jun-19 16:24:39

That's not what the BBC are saying for London - up to 33 tomorrow and them plummeting straight back down on Sunday, thank God, low 20s for next week.

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 16:22:25

Um, might the wind make things feel a little cooler?

OYBK - you may not know the answer event tho you are a genius - why do the BBC think they can keep not mentioning that climate change is here and now and causing all this?

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 14:50:22

I was hoping the wind would be settling tomorrow, but it's still going to be gusting to 20mph, so it's going to be extra dehydrating. plus really annoying when trying to sit out with a newspaper

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 14:36:58

It's going to feel a bit crazy tomorrow. 35c in central London now I think.

Take it easy tomorrow everyone.

GloriaSmud Fri 28-Jun-19 14:15:23

New temperature record in France.

GloriaSmud Fri 28-Jun-19 08:57:15

The Metoffice are giving us 32C for here (Leicester) tomorrow and then a much more pleasant 22C on Sunday.
<considers joining the frogs in the pond to cool down>

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 08:01:51

That is a bit far! grin I'd more envisioned avoiding taking the bakerloo line in central london.

Fun link about temperature on underground lines:

RosaWaiting Thu 27-Jun-19 22:21:08

OBBYK

I'd have to walk 13 miles if I didn't take the Tube. Doesn't seem very practical in 34c.

so we really can hope for a cooler Sunday? That's grand.

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 27-Jun-19 22:18:55

I'd definitely walk rather than take any of the older tube lines.
