Just seen this prediction from my usual weather guy on Twitter.
Any thoughts?

Mof3K Thu 20-Jun-19 11:35:19

Ahhh can't do link.
Here's a screen shot..

RosaWaiting Thu 20-Jun-19 14:38:12

oh I just popped on to see if any weather experts could confirm/deny.

I might need to stay at mum's which is a pain for work but I live in a horrendously hot flat, so dithering about what to do.

rosieposey Thu 20-Jun-19 18:28:44

They are confirming high temps on the net weather model thread.

I don't think anyone knows this far out exactly how hot but very high temperatures and humidity and some amazing thunderstorms coming our way next week.

nespressowoo Thu 20-Jun-19 18:36:45

Oh sweet Jesus I hope not. I hate summer. My met weather app is giving highs of 20 next week 🤞🏻

ComeOnGordon Thu 20-Jun-19 18:44:40

I’m in mainland Europe and it’s been hot all week - 33° on Wednesday. I wouldn’t be moaning about those temps if I was on holiday with a pool and a cocktail but the joy of having to go to work and do boring day to day stuff when it’s that hot is awful.

There’s also a lot of storms around so it’s headachey weather

RosaWaiting Thu 20-Jun-19 18:59:15

on Tuesday I read that Europe was due a horrific heatwave next week - so I was girding myself for England to have it too.

xcweather is changing all the time so fingers crossed it won't be that bad....

ComeOnGordon Thu 20-Jun-19 21:58:42

Our weather forecast is for over 30 degrees from Tuesday for the rest of the week 😩😩😩😩😩 I’ve got such a busy week ahead. I don’t need it

TokyoSushi Fri 21-Jun-19 12:55:48

Yikes! We live in such a hot house too!

SunshineSpring Fri 21-Jun-19 13:11:33

There is a rain warning in place before then!

I've got a max of 21 next week too, Nespresso. I think those temps are a SE thing.

Perihelion Fri 21-Jun-19 22:24:36

Met Office yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms and rain from Sunday night, into Monday and Tuesday for most of the UK.
DD is going Paris where it's forecast to be 37C......

Perihelion Fri 21-Jun-19 22:29:30

While Edinburgh will maybe get as hot as 19C. Also seem to be missing most of the thunderstorm actionsad

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 22-Jun-19 18:18:07

We may see temps of 30C in the SE by Thursday. Off to start another thunderstorm watch thread smile

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 22-Jun-19 18:43:41

The met office are going for 34C by Tuesday!

New thunderstorm watch thread started.

Its really good to see people posting in the weather forum smile

RosaWaiting Sat 22-Jun-19 20:22:24

Oh no, xcweather moved the 34 for London to Saturday and I was hoping that meant it wouldn’t happen.

RosaWaiting Sat 22-Jun-19 20:24:14

Okay, just checked Met Office for my postcode and they have 25 for Tuesday.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 22-Jun-19 22:30:56

I think that we may have temperatures suppressed by cloud.

Emmabryant123 Sun 23-Jun-19 17:07:53

It is so bloody humid

Emmabryant123 Sun 23-Jun-19 17:08:31

Any chance we could be returning to cooler fresher weather soon or is this likely to be long term like last year ?

OhYouBadBadKitten Sun 23-Jun-19 19:53:43

At the moment GFS suggests a shift back to cooler temps after the first week of July. But some areas never really get hot.

The first warm days do take some adjusting to.

Emmabryant123 Mon 24-Jun-19 09:15:53

It's the humidity
I copes better in 37 c heat in se Asia than this because there is respite as everywhere has air con 😅 and it isn't this horrible humid heat

Apolloanddaphne Mon 24-Jun-19 09:23:38

Its fucking freezing here on the east coast of Scotland. I just walked the dog wearing a heavy jacket and a hat. Please send us some heat.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny Mon 24-Jun-19 09:27:48

DS has his DofE practice walk (2 nights/3 days) next weekend and it's forecast to be 28 degrees!!

No doubt they'll be some heavy thunderstorms too, just for good measure!

Supersimpkin Mon 24-Jun-19 09:32:26

Temps of 40 c forecast here in inner London. I am anaemic, asthmatic and have just had 3 lots of leg surgery.

The lift in my block is broken. I live on the 4th floor. Lucky me.

ListenLinda Thu 27-Jun-19 06:55:58

29 degrees on saturday? Holy hell.

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 27-Jun-19 19:31:05

Where are you seeing 40C? It won't reach that.

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 27-Jun-19 19:32:43

London is likely to see 33-34C.

IrenetheQuaint Thu 27-Jun-19 21:01:19

Is it just Saturday that will see the massive temperature spike, OYBBK? That's what the BBC weather forecast says, but it seems slightly odd given the temperatures on the continent.

RosaWaiting Thu 27-Jun-19 22:03:43

I'm also wondering re the temp spike, though all forecasts do have Sunday as much cooler. It just seemed bit odd.

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 27-Jun-19 22:14:46

It is. We are just right on the edge and catch a little pulse.

Leftielefterson Thu 27-Jun-19 22:15:02

aaahhh London’s gonna be fun on the weekend then!

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 27-Jun-19 22:18:55

I'd definitely walk rather than take any of the older tube lines.

RosaWaiting Thu 27-Jun-19 22:21:08

I'd have to walk 13 miles if I didn't take the Tube. Doesn't seem very practical in 34c.

so we really can hope for a cooler Sunday? That's grand.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 08:01:51

That is a bit far! grin I'd more envisioned avoiding taking the bakerloo line in central london.

Fun link about temperature on underground lines:

GloriaSmud Fri 28-Jun-19 08:57:15

The Metoffice are giving us 32C for here (Leicester) tomorrow and then a much more pleasant 22C on Sunday.
<considers joining the frogs in the pond to cool down>

GloriaSmud Fri 28-Jun-19 14:15:23

New temperature record in France.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 14:36:58

It's going to feel a bit crazy tomorrow. 35c in central London now I think.

Take it easy tomorrow everyone.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 14:50:22

I was hoping the wind would be settling tomorrow, but it's still going to be gusting to 20mph, so it's going to be extra dehydrating. plus really annoying when trying to sit out with a newspaper

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 16:22:25

Um, might the wind make things feel a little cooler?

OYBK - you may not know the answer event tho you are a genius - why do the BBC think they can keep not mentioning that climate change is here and now and causing all this?

CassianAndor Fri 28-Jun-19 16:24:39

That's not what the BBC are saying for London - up to 33 tomorrow and them plummeting straight back down on Sunday, thank God, low 20s for next week.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 28-Jun-19 19:02:57

Not sure who you are disagreeing with Cassian?

The wind will make things feel cooler if you aren't in a sheltered spot. That is true smile I was just feeling a bit annoyed by the wind being super slammy with my doors! But I think people will probably therefore underestimate how hot it is and not drink enough.

It's a good question about the BBC. I think it's because it's very hard to prove that any particular single event is down to climate change. So while we can say it probably is, that's because we are looking at the increasing number of records being broken and it's the accumulation of extreme events that point to climate change.

It does need to be said explicitly and loudly though that this is climate change and these extreme events will keep occurring. It will cause deaths, it will destabilise populations and if we don't do something about it now it will get much worse.

BlackeyedGruesome Fri 28-Jun-19 20:26:03

wind will evapourate the sweat/moisture quicker as well.

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 20:34:53

Thanks a million OYBK.

On another matter, I am desperately trying to persuade my 82-yr-old mother who has Parkinson's and is exhausted after a family trauma not to travel by herself via public transport to a field in Hampshire 160 miles away tomorrow (wedding). I can't go with her. I'm pretty sure she'll keel over, but she's a wicked old trout and determined. Can anyone think of anything to put her off?

Cassort Fri 28-Jun-19 20:36:37

My phone weather widget is telling me 33 degrees tomorrow; 10 degrees warmer than today. Is this right?

Cassort Fri 28-Jun-19 20:37:58

Super - make sure she brings a few bottles of water with her if she's determined to go.

Supersimpkin Fri 28-Jun-19 21:19:09

Thanks, I will. grin

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 00:29:20

Thereabouts Cassort.

BlackeyedGruesome Sat 29-Jun-19 10:47:03

I had to shut the windows at 10.30 as it was warmer outside than in. Curtains will be shut as soon as the sun comes round.

BlackeyedGruesome Sat 29-Jun-19 11:00:03

I have already stripped the wallpaper on the one bit of wall that was the next bit. I need to wash up before it gets too hot in the kitchen.

blamethecat Sat 29-Jun-19 11:04:46

I am feeling quite dense by not understanding how the temperature can spike by around 10 degrees for one day ?

GloriaSmud Sat 29-Jun-19 18:39:36

My weather station is measuring 31.7C here (Leicester) at the moment.

blamethecat ~ this has been caused by a blast of heat coming from the Sahara region. Europe has had it as it's moved northwards over the last week and now it's hit us but only for 24 hours or so. Overnight, a front moves from west-east direction so tomorrow will be far more pleasant and fresher.

EducatingArti Sat 29-Jun-19 18:51:14

Us the pressure particularly high at the moment? My ears feel funny!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 21:14:07

Not especially Arti.

I reached 33c on my weather station. It didn't feel that hot though with the breeze. Saw a lot of lobster coloured people who are going to feel very sorry for themselves tomorrow!

The hottest place today seems to have been Battersea which reached 34.3c.

dementedma Sat 29-Jun-19 21:21:40

This is when living in Scotland is utterly shit. I would love a heatwave.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 29-Jun-19 21:22:52

I climbed Ben Nevis when it was 30+ It was not the right weather for that!

BlackeyedGruesome Sat 29-Jun-19 22:02:13

Cloudy here. Travelling west to east. Still very warm. Managed to keep it down to only 28 in the flat. Quite bearable though I got lots of work done this morning.
