Potential thunderstorms this evening and Wednesday 24th

Bit of a change coming up I'm afraid. There's some potential for torrential rain and thunderstorms in places this evening and tomorrow.

Today's risk appears mainly to be in the SW and Wales where some storm activity could take place. The main risk is tomorrow. There's a lot of uncertainty, but risks include torrential rain, C-G lightning and hail. Risks include central southern areas, East Anglia and the NE.

After that, much cooler I'm afraid.

Well, it was nice to have the good weather coinciding with the holiday for once!

Is London in the risk area?

How much cooler? I knew I shouldn’t have turned the heating off.

I’m feeling relieved that I couldn’t be arsed to switch to my summer duvet over the weekend.

Hmm, it certainly feels muggy here today (central South).

It was always going to get cooler after the lovely weather this weekend. I wasn't able to get out and about but the family were and they had a great time.

I have heard the UK summer described as two hot days and a thunderstorm!

Temps down to around 11-12C I think by the end of the week. Doesn't look to be too much of a frost risk though.

London could see some downpours tomorrow. As ever with thunderstorms, they are impossible to give any sort of exact location for and one town may be drowning, while the next one along stays bone dry.

I love your weather threads! Can you tell me why the weather is so crap in Tenerife at the moment? Been here a week and have had 2 sunny days. Have you buggers back home leeched all our sunshine?

I'm near Stockport - are we going to avoid the rain?

DS2 is going to Utrecht at the weekend for King’s Day - he had a semester there in 2017, & it’s one of their big national events

Look what they’re going to get!!! Sad

(Last year was just the same, lovely weekend before & then chilly & showery for the big day)

Very sultry and 'heavy' here in sw devon. Sat in my car waiting for Ds1 and looking at the red smear of Saharan dust on the windscreen. Roll on the rain to clear the air and clean the car.

It's definitely, I don't know, I guess humid is the word? Here.

Hope it rains soon

I see there's a nice blob of heavy rain above Dorchester at the moment but I'm not sure that any of it electrified overnight?.

The risk areas today look very different from yesterday's picture. With storms building in the Midlands, central England and central and western northern England look to be most at risk, with some central areas seeing potentially quite severe storms.
Risk builds from mid afternoon onwards.

Apparently it was George II who described the British summer as three fine days and a thunderstorm (I thought it was Charles II but I was wrong apparently)

We've just had an amazing fiery sunset here (Suffolk), possibly because of some the Sahara sand that's made its way over to the Uk in the last few days. My car had a fine coating of the stuff this morning!

Looks like there's been some really decent thunderstorms in the SW and a very impressive shelf cloud has been shown on twitter over Hull this evening.

We had a very impressive anvil cloud about 5pm, sadly I was driving and couldn't take a photo. It was followed by a short hailstorm and several short sharp rain showers, sunny in between. Central South.
