Disclaimer: Neither Gloria nor I are professionals, but we are enthusiastic amateurs. While we attempt to guide you through current forecasts, please don't rely on us for decisions that actually matter - refer to the met office for these.

magimedi Wed 30-Jan-19 22:33:00

You & Gloria are wonderful & I don't think you know how many of us take so much more heed of your FORECASTING, by which I mean the interpretation of all the weather info, than that which is just given to us a computer generated symbols.

And I see just where you are coming from with your warnings about reliance but we love you.

And not just for snow, but for wind/gales/rain & (best of all) heatwaves!

No snow here (east Sussex) atm - hooray!

Titsywoo Wed 30-Jan-19 22:36:39

Boo, Metoffice have downgraded us (East Surrey) from heavy to light snow tomorrow evening. Probably no bad thing as DH is flying into London City Airport at 5.30 and it would be nice if he could get home quickly and easily!

MayhemandMadness01 Wed 30-Jan-19 22:42:14

Just plonking my snowman down here or at least I would if it had snowed here at all. My weather app has been removed from the christmas card list as it just lies to me.

TokyoSushi Wed 30-Jan-19 22:53:42

Forecast rubbish for Cheshire tomorrow but I live in hope!

Thanks as always @OhYouBadBadKitten and @GloriaSmud

Thanks OYBBK and Glo

Rarely actually tune into watch the weather these days. Our star casters are way more accurate smile

Ds and I had a lovely imaginary snow day today. Hoping for a real one sometime soon!

Caticorn Thu 31-Jan-19 00:00:07

My snow keeps getting stolen sad
Lovely snow on the met office weather forecast and then nothing appears. Very disappointing!

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 31-Jan-19 05:59:16

Snow warnings for the NE now, after I said it would stay clear. Oops!

Morning OYBBK ! I'm off to Center Parcs at Longleat tomorrow morning, really hoping we get there from Gloucestershire- any thoughts???

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 31-Jan-19 06:13:12

Thank you btw smile That means a lot!

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 31-Jan-19 06:14:32

Fudge, could be an interesting journey!

The band of precipitation does seem narrower still than last nights forecast, so fewer hours of intense snowfall now, and again further south.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername Thu 31-Jan-19 06:15:52

Just placemarking over here !!!!

AFingerofFudge Thu 31-Jan-19 06:21:30

Thanks OYBBK - hopefully we won't encounter too many problems getting there, and once we're there we can enjoy the snowy surroundings wine

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 31-Jan-19 06:26:20

That would be lovely!

So primary risk tonight seems to be south of Birmingham, with south Wales and neighboring counties bearing the brunt of the snow as the system temporarily stalls and pivots. The NE may catch some snow from this as snow showers then feed in from the east temporarily.

Tomorrow morning snow showers in the Midlands may take a few hours to fizzle out.

GFS is still keen for a wet southerly edge. Apart from the coast, I'm not convinced.

I'm out this morning, so will have limited access to models for a while. My current temperature is -6.5c so wish me luck on my walk to the station!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross Thu 31-Jan-19 06:26:21

Just checking in to see what it looks like for Worcester - just cold and frosty at the moment so I'll get into work today (over 10 miles away) but will I get back home this evening...?

stabbybitch Thu 31-Jan-19 06:28:12

We've had one lot of sleet, but today it's saying snow tonight! DS is ecstatic and can't wait. How likely is this for the new forest/Southampton?

nannynick Thu 31-Jan-19 06:35:14

CentreParcs is lovely in the snow as long as you don't need to cycle. Once I was at Longleat, sat in the outdoor pool at the AquaSana and it started snowing. Lovely being in the Spa in the snow but the walk back to villa was fun.

brizzledrizzle Thu 31-Jan-19 06:46:07

Thanks for the new thread.
It's bitterly cold here but I haven't braved a look out of the window; the car was already frozen at 10pm last night.

GloriaSmud Thu 31-Jan-19 06:47:34

Morning all ~ a new Snow-Watch thread (and thank you for the lovely comments at the beginning of it there blush )

Think we were forecast for it to be -2 or -3 overnight but we're down to -6C here (Leicester) shock

stabby ~ if you're inland, you should get a few hours of snow tonight. Nearer the coast, probably not looking so good and it'll be rain/sleet.

hoochymama1 Thu 31-Jan-19 07:07:52

Again thank you both for all the sensible information thanks
No snow here in NE Derbyshire but terribly cold!

Yes! Lovely memories in our family too of being in centerparcs in the snow grin

Reastie Thu 31-Jan-19 07:09:33

Thanks for thread. Have to leave first thing to,orrow morning for a hospital appointment at 8am in west Kent and very worried about it as we live on ungritted country lane on a hill. Completely confused about how much snow we’ll get

Frouby Thu 31-Jan-19 07:12:10

Brrrrrr its a bit chilly here in south yorkshire. No snow though, just a thick, thick frost and feezing fog.

School run up a pretty steep, ungritted path and over a humpback bridge that will probably be black ice. Possibly. Debating between defrosting the car and risking the roads or slipsliding about.

Don't think we will get any snow though which is good as I hate it!

prampushingdownthehighst Thu 31-Jan-19 07:12:46

Longest in the snow is magical! Not too much though!
Do you think Somerset will get a dumping of snow?
I'm checking the forecast and those say rain/snow and it's difficult to see which will be in the majority.
Thank you so much, your threads are the first thing I check if there are adverse weather conditions around.
