To complement the Summer weather thread.

Tomorrow could see some thunderstorms in places across England, but by tomorrow evening, the main area of risk appears to be in the central southern areas (revised forecast from earlier) , where frequent lightning and small hail could form in any storms that evolve.

GloriaSmud Fri 20-Apr-18 20:48:05

I think it'll be interesting which places end up having thunderstorms. I have a feeling they'll be a bit like the snow showers a few weeks ago, where once you get one, others will follow after it.

DearMrDilkington Fri 20-Apr-18 20:57:43

Hope we get a good storm down here in Essex! I love a thunderstormgrin

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 08:26:49

TheWeatherOutlook are saying storms from this afternoon onwards.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 08:32:57

It does look that way, with the potential for the, to push into northern England.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 08:35:03

Couple of lightning maps, with blitzortung showing some to the south of the uk.

Costacoffeeplease Sat 21-Apr-18 08:37:45

We’ve just had a massive thunderstorm in the algarve. Seems to have passed through now

DamsonGin Sat 21-Apr-18 08:38:13

I love a bit of lightning but one of our DC is like a scared rabbit, reverts to hiding under the duvet with headphones and music on.

Think I saw this mapping on here first, always like to look it up for stormy weather...

IWantMyHatBack Sat 21-Apr-18 08:39:41

Excellent, I love a good thunderstorm

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 09:41:23

Netweather's Storm Forecast for today.

PointlessUsername Sat 21-Apr-18 17:49:42

Love a good thunder storm.

It was trying to Rain NW London a little while ago.

RatOnnaStick Sat 21-Apr-18 17:54:51

It's all looking a bit violent over the channel. Has anyone heard anything on the south coast?

absolutelycrackers Sat 21-Apr-18 17:59:48

No heard nothing

imnottoofussed Sat 21-Apr-18 18:00:29

Hoping for a storm here in Cheshire/Manchester border as I love thunder and lightning. Currently gorgeous sunshine with a cloud forming above my head

RatOnnaStick Sat 21-Apr-18 18:21:21

lightning maps

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 19:11:01

So far it looks like it's coming straight for me!

But, knowing my luck, it'll slide just a bit to the east and I'll miss out on all the excitement, yet again.

Mooey89 Sat 21-Apr-18 19:31:26

Thunder here in Portsmouth!!

TopBitchoftheWitches Sat 21-Apr-18 19:33:13

dearmr

Getting very overcast here in North Essex.

OttilieKnackered Sat 21-Apr-18 19:34:46

Yep, also in Portsmouth and enjoying the storm (luckily no need to go outside).

elephantoverthehill Sat 21-Apr-18 19:37:09

Isle of Wight and a cracker going on here. I'm glad I didn't get around to any watering in the garden earlier.

DinahMo Sat 21-Apr-18 19:37:27

Oi Southampton stop hogging the lightning!

coffeeagogo Sat 21-Apr-18 19:39:35

I hate thunder and lighting - it's the only thing I am really scared of ☹️ and DH is on nights tonight. I hope it doesn't come London

m0therofdragons Sat 21-Apr-18 19:42:40

We're just south of bath and have had a thunderstorm that was very sudden (blue sky, storm, back to blue sky). It was pretty cool.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 20:02:16

come to me little stormy baby come to me......

AnyFucker Sat 21-Apr-18 20:03:45

It went overcast in Manchester for a couple of hours around 3pm, now back to clear skies

Deucebumps Sat 21-Apr-18 20:03:53

Thunder, lightning and torrential rain in Portsmouth. I'm currently stuck in the pub until it stops, what a shame....

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 20:09:01

It's a very naughty storm. It's actually going to the west of me. But I've had a couple of flashes and rolls of thunder.

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 20:30:20

I keep looking at netweather's radar and trying to work out whether the storm over Gloucestershire/Bristol at the moment will get to Leicester in the next few hours.

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 20:33:41

Looks really bad over Cherbourg.

StableGenius Sat 21-Apr-18 20:33:49

Storms seem to be all over Dorset...except the bit I'm in hmm. I want it!

MuddyForestWalks Sat 21-Apr-18 20:34:43

Its saying thunderstorms over us in the night then to clear by morning and be dry and sunny - amazing. I hope they're right, that is perfect weather imo.

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 20:36:35

Some weather warnings just been issued by the metoffice.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 20:49:13

rain warnings associated with the storms.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 20:49:40

hah! didn't see yours Gloria, must refresh.

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 20:58:28

grin

justinhawkinsnavalfluff Sat 21-Apr-18 21:18:28

Lightning in warwickshire

mrsdolittle Sat 21-Apr-18 21:40:00

Cracking storm over Gloucestershire about half an hour ago. Gone now though

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 21:42:13

A bit of distant lightning where I am. Given I'm watching True Horror it's very atmospheric.

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 22:07:19

Just had a rumble of thunder here.
Amazing lightning on the Portsmouth harbour webcam.

imnottoofussed Sat 21-Apr-18 22:18:33

Just started raining here but the forecasts are no longer showing any thunder storms angry

SneakyGremlins Sat 21-Apr-18 22:19:59

Live near Stockport - any chance of a storm here? I love em!

HabituallyOptimistic Sat 21-Apr-18 22:22:26

Oh no, I hate storms and it looks like it's heading my way.
<Hides under duvet>

AnyFucker Sat 21-Apr-18 22:27:19

Quiet as a mouse here 😔

IWantMyHatBack Sat 21-Apr-18 22:31:48

Few flashes and rumbles a while back, then lots and lots of rain, now nothing (Swindon area)

Is there going to be another wave early hours?

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 22:32:43

Getting some interesting stuff now. Looks pretty massive over Bournemouth.

SneakyGremlins Sat 21-Apr-18 22:33:23

I've got some plants outside that would love a long drink!

SingingTunelessly Sat 21-Apr-18 22:37:18

Some thunder rolls and lightening here in Warwickshire. Heavy rain started but suddenly stopped although feeling fairly humid.

Jux Sat 21-Apr-18 22:38:20

East Devon: We had a beautiful sunny day (fairly cold wind, but our town is a wind tunnel) until 6ish when we had some splodgy rain and then a fabulous dranatic thunderstowm. It was great!

Jux Sat 21-Apr-18 22:38:58

dramatic thunderstorm blush

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 22:40:50

^ Not Bournemouth, I meant Southampton.

Lots of activity now, moving up from the Southampton area.

Just heard a loud crack. Reckon this is going to on for a couple of hours or so.

NotAsYoungAsIWas Sat 21-Apr-18 22:52:31

West Sussex - some nice rumbles here, getting louder!

MorvahRising Sat 21-Apr-18 22:59:45

DS is in Southampton and had texted to say it’s been nonstop there for a while now. There’s a river outside his window and the thunder and lightning has been continuous.

brizzledrizzle Sat 21-Apr-18 23:03:59

We had a bizarre experience earlier as it sounded exactly like the built in wardrobes in our bedroom had collapsed. As neither us knew that thunder was forecast we dashed up to look, I hope it was thunder after all.

GloriaSmud Sat 21-Apr-18 23:12:30

We've got thundery rain and the wind's got up but that's about it here (Leicester)

SneakyGremlins Sat 21-Apr-18 23:13:01

My family all live in Southampton, wish I was there sad

HabituallyOptimistic Sat 21-Apr-18 23:14:42

Uh oh, here come the rumbles... SW London.

Doje Sat 21-Apr-18 23:17:03

South of Leeds and just had some thunder and lightning here!

Watto1 Sat 21-Apr-18 23:17:41

SE Wales here. No storm as of yet, but got a stinking headache as I always do when there's thunder about. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it starts soon.

2004bestyear Sat 21-Apr-18 23:19:25

Pretty bad over North Hampshire at the moment

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 21-Apr-18 23:26:42

We have a storm grin but it's my bedtime sad

kooshbin Sat 21-Apr-18 23:29:54

Seems to have passed over or fizzled out here in mid-Hampshire. That was about an hour of almost non-stop lightning and thunder. The biggest storm I've seen in years.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es Sat 21-Apr-18 23:30:34

It's been rumbling and flashing all evening here but never overhead, all distant - Surrey/Hants borders.

shockedballoon Sat 21-Apr-18 23:37:03

Storm just passed over here in Leeds - lasted about 15mins in total.

SneakyGremlins Sat 21-Apr-18 23:50:23

Still waiting sad

brizzledrizzle Sat 21-Apr-18 23:53:34

We've seen some amazing lightning photos from round here, somebody got one by the bridge which was stunning.

HabituallyOptimistic Sun 22-Apr-18 00:04:02

And here it is. Torrential rain, flashes every few seconds and constant bangs/rumbles. Dogs sleeping, me not so.

RustyBear Sun 22-Apr-18 00:36:57

It seems to have missed us in Wokingham - I’ve noticed this before, that we get big storms passing east and west of us and we’re in a corridor between, with just a few isolated strikes. The screen shots are from tonight and July 2015 and show a similar pattern, and I’ve seen it at other times too.

MyCatIsAPsychopath Sun 22-Apr-18 01:02:02

Just had a massive thunderstorm here (Heathrow) with lashings of rain!

JillJ72 Sun 22-Apr-18 03:37:43

Arriving in N Bucks now.....

GloriaSmud Mon 07-May-18 18:24:21

Thought I'd give this thread a little 'bump' as some could see thundery showers tomorrow as temperatures return to normal.

Whatthefoxgoingon Mon 07-May-18 19:53:36

Whereabouts gloria? Love a good thunderstorm, never seem to get many in London

GloriaSmud Mon 07-May-18 20:50:30

Might get the odd thundery shower/rumble of thunder later tomorrow and Wednesday, whatthefox. Don't think it's going to be big thunderstorms for you on this occasion, more thundery showers and a gradual cooling down from tomorrow onwards.
Still there's plenty more summer to come so hopefully some decent thunderstorms will come your way then!

Whatthefoxgoingon Mon 07-May-18 21:33:27

Fingers crossed Gloria 🤞

youarenotkiddingme Wed 23-May-18 17:41:57

Just came to start a thread for your take on weekends weather OYBBK

Guessed you'd probably already have one star

youarenotkiddingme Wed 23-May-18 17:42:39

Sorry posted too soon!

What's your take on the storms predicted to last for 12 hours Sat through to Sun noon?
South coast central.

GloriaSmud Sat 26-May-18 14:27:19

Just going to give a 'bump' to this thread as there are weather warnings for heavy showers/thunderstorms from today through 'til Monday.

RatOnnaStick Sat 26-May-18 15:04:27

I'm.currently at Chessington for the weekend and my there appears to be thunder forecast right through tonight and all day tomorrow. Does that just mean they are expecting some but don't know when or where? Or does it really look like prolonged storms?

GloriaSmud Sat 26-May-18 16:09:24

Rat ~ Netweather describe any storms as 'hit and miss' so I think they could be anywhere in the warning areas but are more likely as temperatures increase/it gets towards the evening and overnight today and tomorrow.

RatOnnaStick Sat 26-May-18 17:43:15

Thanks Gloria. I'm sitting in my room looking out at the giraffes right now with hazy sunshine. As long as it holds off til the kids are in bed later I shall be happy.

gottaslowdown Sat 26-May-18 17:46:09

Rat My memory is so terrible, I was trying to work out where you could possibly be with giraffes outside your window waiting for the storm shock

Noodle grin

RatOnnaStick Sat 26-May-18 17:52:29

grin my view

elephantoverthehill Sat 26-May-18 17:57:05

Dd is away camping with the scouts, she was very excited on Friday when she left, about the prospect of being in a tent during a thunder storm. confused I hope she has pitched it well grin.

gottaslowdown Sat 26-May-18 18:12:36

Oh wow Rat That's beautiful! You don't really want tall sticky up necks in lightning do you grin

Good Luck!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 26-May-18 18:19:18

sorry, I've been insanely busy recently, not known which way is up! Literally just stopped work a few minutes ago after starting at 9 this morning.

It does look possibly pretty exciting tonight for central southern areas, extending out towards Dorset.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 26-May-18 18:20:42

I don't know who is behind this page and therefore how accurate they will be but it looks interesting.
www.convectiveweather.co.uk/forecast.php?date=2018-05-26

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 26-May-18 18:23:09

So risks I think are for very heavy rain, frequent lightning and small hail. Bring it on, but not while I'm walking home from the pub!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 26-May-18 18:24:13

I've just seen about camping. I would advise moving into a vehicle if an active thunderstorm moves overhead.

youarenotkiddingme Sat 26-May-18 18:34:22

It's very humid here central south.
I've found opening all windows fully and shutting blinds/curtains has been the only way to keep cool!

I'm most worried about driving for an hour at 7am if it's bad.
Because if it's awful overnight it's likely I'll be tired as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 26-May-18 18:36:53

It is humid and very windy too, plenty of wind sheer looking at the clouds moving earlier.

kooshbin Sat 26-May-18 19:33:06

Looks like quite a bit of TS activity over Exeter. I wonder how many Met Office staff who are still working are looking out of the windows instead of their computer screens!

RafaIsTheKingOfClay Sat 26-May-18 19:34:18

Rain thunder and lightning just kicked in here in SW.

kooshbin Sat 26-May-18 19:37:57

There's a massive storm to the west of Paris. If that tracks north, it could get very interesting on the south coast.

Jungfraujoch Sat 26-May-18 20:43:26

Waiting in Dorset.

KatieMoragsMum Sat 26-May-18 21:11:04

On north Devon it has just suddenly got very dark, windy and frequent rumbles of thunder overhead. Sky is a strange colour. It has been humid today. Oh here comes rain. Kitty cat has climbed onto my lap, she’s not keen!

PunxsutawneyHogwash Sat 26-May-18 21:18:53

In the middle of a great storm right now here in West Somerset. Dark grey sky with an orange hue, heavy rain, and massive claps of thunder and flashes of lightning.

I am right on the coast and have a great view!

Wow! MOFO thunder and lightning together just then!

Lowdoorinthewal1 Sat 26-May-18 21:19:35

Thunder seems to have been and gone in North Dorset.

RafaIsTheKingOfClay Sat 26-May-18 21:19:58

I think you’ve got what we had earlier Katie. Hasn’t really done much for the humidity tbh.

BestIsWest Sat 26-May-18 21:26:39

Coming our way in Swansea in about an hour I think.

KatieMoragsMum Sat 26-May-18 21:32:35

The wind just completely stopped. Giant lightning flashes and thunder rumbles all going on at the same time. Impressive and powerful. Feel like we’re in the middle of something. Hope it’ll rain to clear the air and give my garden a drink.

TERFragetteCity Sat 26-May-18 21:40:31

OOh am in the Midlands and am hoping for storms as have 25 buckets waiting to fill at the allotment as we are out of water.
