Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

outlook copied from old thread 18:28

ok, so gfs is getting onboard with the met office. You guys up in the red zone have a lot more to come tonight and through tomorrow I'm afraid.

Then before storm emma arrives, tomorrow we have a band of snow, heavy I think at times pushing into the south, first through central southern areas then the SW too. I think it makes it roughly as far east as West Sussex, but that's very approximate and as you've seen snow showers can pop up anywhere.

Heavy snow through Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bristol etc before affecting Wales and much of Ireland and NI. Gusts will reach gale force at times, so blizzard conditions will occur. I don't know if red warnings will be issued for the moors - keep an eye.

Areas probably from Hampshire westwards could see snow all day tomorrow perhaps.

Extra Warning: on thursday night a band of freezing rain is again showing for parts of the south and south west. This is very dangerous. If it does occur, don't travel on Friday unless essential or you have an amazing gritting council.

Friday - snow pushes up through the south again. More about that late tonight or tomorrow.

Snowy weather is a bit of a novelty for us in Cornwall, so we have stocked up with food and will not be going anywhere. I suspect the village where we live may be cut off - narrow roads, up a hill (or two) and largely forgotten as we aren't on the road to anywhere. So glad the new freezer was delivered yesterday!

Just to add to what OYBBK's put ^^ there, weatherman Matt Taylor has just tweeted,

"Those in SE Eng/Mids should also monitor forecasts over next 12hrs"

Leicester might get a good covering out of this cold spell yet!

OYBBK and Gloria what do you think about the ECM model?

Netweather model lot seem to think there’s been a huge turnaround with the low and we’re going to be in the cold for a while yet?!

Ello ello! Another cornish one here! We had so much snow today. Amazing!

No idea what to expect tomorrow as we aren't quite in the amber area. But we're excited to find out.

We wont be leaving the house as our driveway is thick ice and freezing rain is due too! Confused

Thank you for the thread. Love them

You’re amazing. Thank you so much for the updates.
We’ve made the decision to tell staff to remain at home tomorrow and if we can, we’ll get into work, however if the snow starts here (just east of Southampton) before pre-school opens then we’ll be staying at home too.

I've just seen the se need to watch developments. I've shut one of my sites and deferred staff elsewhere.

Are we in for more? Although it is snowing outside!!

Hey Gertrude are you in the Blizzard from the Lizard? Just saw the pics on Spotlight and it looks very pretty. And cold!

Snownechanger ~ I'm not sure I read/understand the ECM as much as the GFS model but from what I can tell, what the ECM's just done follows what the metoffice have been hinting at in their Outlooks ~ that apart from occasional mild spells and maybe the south returning to more average temperatures for the time of year, for a lot of the country, the cold could stay throughout March.

It is though one run so more will be needed!

Hello! In Norfolk and wondering if we'll get more snow overnight, or if we've had our lot. Eight inches this morning so quite happy to go without any more!

Can you tell how Cheshire will be tomorrow? The various online forecasts all disagree, DD has training with a 90 mile round trip. Should be ok for us on the Wirral, travelling to Crewe. DH doesn't want to get stuck half way back!
Thanks 😊

MegBusset ~ nope, might get the odd flake but think that's it for you now.

We've got a few inches of snow in our red-zoned area, and still getting lots of heavy blizzardy showers. I'm expecting to be covered in snow when we open the back door tomorrow!

Susiesue ~ you should be fine travelling tomorrow.

I live on the south Derbyshire/Staffordshire border. It's bloody cold and we keep getting flurries but it's business as usual. Jealous of the proper snow.

Been out to grit the hill - West Surrey. Council does not do our road, just leaves us a box of grit/salt. It is lasting quite well, just hope it can last out this snow season. Driving M25J12-J8 tomorrow morning, that may be fun though usually the motorways are reasonable, it's getting to them that is the problem.

Thanks for the updates OYBBK and Gloria.

It's snowing now on south east London. My phone (not accurate) suggests it could snow till 2 pm. Can this be correct?

Lots of showers showing up here (except Leicester seems to have its own snowshield at the moment, so they're missing us!)
Temperature-wise, we're down to -5.2C

Not had so much as a snowflake where I am in the South but it is apparently on its way to us and forecast for tomorrow day time.

Dire warnings of blizzards and all sorts earlier, but warning has been downgraded to yellow now - so I'm hoping it's not going to be as bad as originally thought.

Good luck to everyone in the red zones. We were in the amber one yesterday, and that seemed a lot of snow! Stay safe everyone!
