Christmas eve is in the GFS model range woo hoo!!!
I’m an amateur, don’t rely on my forecasts etc etc, at this range it is entirely a guess, the models will change.....

I only have time for an instantaneous forecast at the moment -
GFS says: cold and settled.

back later for a better forecast.

With all the excitement/possible snow coming this weekend, I'd forgotten Christmas was coming into range! But judging by what Louise Lear said on News24 earlier this afternoon (about cold carrying on throughout December) and looking at the GFS, I go with cold as well!

christmaspudding1 Fri 08-Dec-17 18:15:20

hope it is cold,Dorset here and we have had mild Christmas's for years

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 08-Dec-17 18:56:06

It looks pretty promising for at least some seasonal temps and perhaps some flurries to go with it.

Putting my order in for Christmas: cold, bright, plenty of snow on the ground but roads clear! Thanking you fwink

SweetChickadee Fri 08-Dec-17 20:30:52

Canada calling grin. Not a scrap of snow here, and none in the forecast. Mild temps and sun for the next week.

Maybe we'll have our first brown Christmas since emigrating shock

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 08-Dec-17 21:09:08

Maybe that’s a good sign for us Chickadee!

Bah humbug, in this mornings model run the high pressure is in the wrong place, bringing mild temperatures over Christmas.

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 12-Dec-17 08:55:00

dammit, it still looks mild and very wet according to the latest gfs. Back to traditional recent Christmas’.

GloriaSmud Tue 12-Dec-17 11:24:28

Bummer ~ it is, isn't it.
Oh please don't let the last few days be our only taste of snow this winter!

GloriaSmud Wed 13-Dec-17 10:03:40

Looking mild (possibly wet) for the south and chilly (might be snow for Scottish hills) for the north, on Christmas Day.
Many Bah humbugs!

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 13-Dec-17 10:53:57

I’m not even looking today fgrin

hotdog74 Wed 13-Dec-17 11:53:13

Bah humbug - is there still time for it all to change?

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 13-Dec-17 12:45:11

there is hotdog. I’m not writing off Christmas yet.

hotdog74 Wed 13-Dec-17 13:54:33

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 13-Dec-17 18:07:51

hah!!! gfs has just thrown up a very snowy christmas day chart. It’s having a laugh I’m sure!! I’ll have a proper look later and tomorrow to see if it’s a blip or a trend.

GloriaSmud Wed 13-Dec-17 18:11:11

Ahem ~ latest GFS showing precipitation type for Christmas Day fgrin

GloriaSmud Wed 13-Dec-17 18:11:45

How's that for a x post!

anyoldname76 Wed 13-Dec-17 18:12:15

i hope we get snow, mild weather is just not christmassy fsmile

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 13-Dec-17 18:12:28

x-post fgrin

jingle bells, jingle bells!!

What do you reckon Gloria? Is this going to be a reality, or do you think it’s been drinking too much sherry? I’ll have a proper look later.

GloriaSmud Wed 13-Dec-17 18:20:00

Welllll, the GFS did do pretty well with the cold a few days ago, forecasting that 10 or so days ahead. And it seems to have the temperatures dipping a few days before (from the 22/12) so kind of gives the feeling that it's a trend rather than a blip so think it would be wise to see what the next few runs do!
<jingles hopeful bells>

BishopBrennansArse Wed 13-Dec-17 18:31:19

Still rain for me fsad

ClashCityRocker Wed 13-Dec-17 18:31:51

I think it's gonna be cold..

Based on no forecasting skills whatsoever, but just the fact that I won't have a lift to work until January so will be on the bike.

RatOnnaStick Wed 13-Dec-17 19:27:09

That picture looks like sleet for me fhmm. I'd rather have rain.
