Will Hurricane Ophelia manage to hit the UK?

Not been much in the news about it yet, other than a few small articles. Anyone else notice it's due to be getting very close to the UK?

Looks like it's still meant to be hurricane strength when it hits Ireland early next week, before taking a swipe at Scotland. I thought the water was meant to be too cold and they normally fizzle out into winter storms.

First British hurricane since Debbie in 1961?

Blimey, better batten down the hatches then!

Been talking about it in the autumn chat thread. Yes, it will impact, to what extent.....

Here is what NOAA has to say “Ophelia confused

“1. Ophelia is expected to transition to a hurricane-force post-
tropical cyclone by Monday when it moves near Ireland and the
United Kingdom. While post-tropical Ophelia will likely bring some
direct impacts from wind and heavy rain to portions of these areas,
as well as dangerous marine conditions, given the forecast
uncertainty at these time ranges it is too soon to determine the
exact magnitude, timing and location of the impacts. Residents in
Ireland and the United Kingdom should monitor the progress of
Ophelia for the next several days. For more information on local
impacts, residents of Ireland should refer to products issued by Met
Eireann and residents in the United Kingdom should refer to products
issued by the Met Office.”

It shouldn’t really be as strong as it is at this point. ho hum. It’s been quite a remarkable hurricane system.

Keep an eye on the met office warnings, I expect they will be refined and upgraded somewhat over the next couple of days

How weird. I walked out this morning and was immediately hit by warm air, it's dark and rainy here at the moment. I wonder if that's the start of it.

Oh wow, I hope not. It’s actually getting fairly windy round here at the moment 😟

Am on the west cost of Ireland and last night I had to bring the cat & the dog into the house as the wind was so strong! That’s a first believe me. We’ve tied down the trampoline etc as the last one ended up in the next field.

So from last night/this morning I’d say it has potential to be quite fierce.

It is pulling up some very warm air.

Most likely place for very strong winds at the moment looks to be Ireland, but there is uncertainty in the track.

The strongest winds look to be on Monday.

I'm on the east coast of ireland and it's bizarrely warm this morning. Not much by way of wind over here yet, so I'm hoping to be able to spend tomorrow battening down the hatches.

OYBBK good to know, I thought I was going mad. We have the heating on but the warm air was very noticeable. I must put the patio furniture away today.

Sort of - it's mainland Ireland that needs to batten down the hatches but the winds will not be anywhere near hurricane force. Scotland and west/north UK should also keep an eye out

Yes really weird warm wind outside this morning. Air feels “thick” if that’s a thing Hmm

The lovely Barra Best from BBC weather has just said Monday will be very windy.

This is fascinating. In the past weeks there have only been a few days without a hurricane brewing in the central Atlantic.

I've sandbagged our garage. It's at the bottom of a slight slope. Family spitting feathers every time they have to lift bikes over the little barricade!

Doesn't RoI technically classify as a rainforest because of the amount of rainfall?

I'm in the Midlands and it's certainly very mild today, and windy, although that's nothing new! According to The Express, it's on a terrifying path to the UK and is set to smash into Britain next week. (No, i don't read the Express, just saw the ridiculous headline on Google 😐)

I'm in the Midlands and it's very windy. I was surprised how mild it was this morning compared to the last few days when walking the dog at around 7am.

lubey, it’s too early to say, NOAA are saying that it will be a hurricane force post tropical cyclone when it approaches. How much those winds are bought over Ireland is up in the air still as so to speak. Different models have different paths for the storm.
