How is winter looking?

I've not had the winter duvet out in an age, just didn't need it last winter.

I've been sleeping with just a sheet on the bed and last night had to get up and find my 4tog as I was a bit chilly!

The met office contingency forecast goes from September - November. At the moment they reckon it is a little more likely to be warmer and wetter than average.

Next one should be out early October and it will give us a bit more of an insight into the winter - perhaps!

due to some of the highest astronomical tides during springs in both months. If there is accompanying storm surge, it could cause some coastal flooding.

Also interested, hate the cold and in London it's always accompanied by a flu and noro outbreak. The winters we had Six ish years ago were hell. Or was it longer than that?

I have just come inside from lunch spent sitting in the sun beside our local river and it was bloomin warm! Got attacked by a couple of wasps and loads of ladybirds so no sign of it cooling down here in Kent yet.

well so far the met office long term contingency planners thing didn't really pull this scenario we are having out.
Very blocked at the moment and gfs is showing a rather cold second week in November. Still a way off yet, but it is quite impressive. Perhaps the first white stuff of the season for some northern hills.

I think that one day the express will be right. If they say it every year eventually it will be true. I don't do long term forecasting, but this year does show some potential I think of it being a more wintery winter than we've had recently.

I haven't checked the NAO yet but there is certainly a possibility of a cold, dry winter (my fave) due to the exceptional El Niño we had last year. Frequently after an El Niño as the Walker Cell returns to its correct circulation, the result is a La Niña which is possible this winter. I'll have a nosey at the charts now.....
