Current warnings from the metoffice. Looks awful for the SW ~ amber warning for rain, yellow warning for wind and there are warnings for other areas of the country today and over the next few days.

Think there are possibly signs of something a bit cooler (and how winter should be) from Tuesday onwards?

(Hope no one minds a new thread ~ weather warnings seem to be a regular thing at the moment)

I've been looking at the weather forecast for Monday on and off all day today. We live in Bristol and are supposed to be driving to Cornwall on Monday. I'm thinking that we really ought to leave it until either late Monday evening, when it looks like the storm will pass, or Tuesday Sad.

Heman ~ I think after 3pm Monday, the winds should start easing. I guess it's a case though of the longer you leave your journey, the better conditions will be.

I've been eyeing the neighbours trampolines all day. They've been wobbling and shaking like they were going to take off.

A giant blue metallic helium '4' balloon came flying through my garden this afternoon. Gave me a shock when it caught my eye.

This looks to be hurricane force. It's worse than yesterday. Is it as bad as it looks.

amber for wind now

It could gust as high as 80mph along coastal areas of the sw, 60-70 elsewhere, 50-60 in the yellow areas. Quite nasty Im afraid.

Oh gosh it was SO windy yesterday. We have moved our trampoline so it's stuffed between the shed and the fence, surrounded by trees, so unless it does a vertical takeoff that should be safe (I hope!)

The chicken is getting blown about, I'm worried she might sail over the fence into next door's and get eaten by their hound. I may have to tether her to something Grin

Already some disruption expected on the trains tomorrow. If you use the train in the south or the south west, check your train operator.

That was my thought too Gloria. Although one thing I forgot to factor in is that I have to load the car up at our end before setting off. My not sure I'm even going to be able to do that safely! We are in a very exposed spot here.

I'm thinking a very early start on (hopefully) a much calmer Tuesday morning may be the best plan of action.

Grin at tethered chicken.

Heman Ah, you've got car-loading as well. Yes, Tuesday morning might be a wise and less-stressful move.

She's hiding under the trampoline now! I've just cut down half of a 20ft tree which was interesting jolly fun, in the wind, but am thankfully still alive.

It's very inconvenient, all this. I hope those in the South West are fairing OK. Lovely to see the plant though isn't it, everything has buds! Smile

Pipistrella ~ everything's a-sprouting here (Leicester) as well. I've just been outside and glanced in our pond and there are 3 frogs ~ 2 males and a female, doing the pre-mating clinch thing they do. Usually wouldn't see that until March/April time Shock Perhaps the colder weather this week will dampen their ardour a bit! Grin

SideOrder ~ not really surprised at that, it's a nasty looking storm. Keep safe.

This is getting boring isn't it? This winter is turning out to be a repeat of 2 years ago. I long for a cold dry snap.

Thanks for this thread anyway.

LOL at clinching frogs Grin

SideOrder - I hope you are alright there. Force 10 sounds really scary. Do you normally get a lot of wind being an island? (sorry bit thick here!)

We're by the sea and it's far indier here than it ever was where we lived before, and seems windy almost all the time. Not sure why, it's not normally coming off the sea, but blowing towards it.

I have the unofficial weather report from friends who already in North Cornwall - Bloody Grim Sad. They have battened down the hatches. And it's going to get worse.

We are moving to Plan A - a very early start on Tuesday morning.

Hope you are OK there Side.

Long time weather lurker here. We are in Plymouth getting alarmingly windy out there already. Visited burrator reservoir today and the amount of standing water on the roads and run off was impressive - we don't need any more rain. Needles to say the overflow at the reservoir dam was impressive.
Stay safe all!
