Thought I'd kick off a bright and shiny weather thread to see us through the second half of the winter. Albeit a winter with daffodils and blossom Shock.

All I can say is that I've just been down to the bins and it seems chiller than it has been >

We have had no winter in the South East. I've got my heating on for an hour a day to take the damp out the air.

It's probably going to snow for the next two months now I've said that Grin

Loads of daffodils in flower in the garden, don't like it would prefer them in March. Also grass keeps growing and looks a mess but ground too wet to mow.

Yay, a nice new winter thread, thank you meglet.
I think it's looking more seasonal towards the weekend and possibly into next week as well. How long the cold lasts and whether it results in some of the cold white stuff falling, time will tell.

well done meglet :)

Bucks - squishy squelchy in the garden, a mudfest of muddiness as I weave a varying path every day across the grass from house to chicken run and back.

Cooler this week but not properly cold. Lots sprouting early. Less rain and more sun is my order - for the nation!

Liam Dutton (weatherman for Channel4 News) is rather excited about the possibility of cold weather next week.

Well, it's bliblical in the Northeast, today, with lots of flooded roads. Will start a separate thread on that I think.

Kitten is there any truth to the rumours of snow in Scotland the weekend ?

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2016 21:17

sorry, had one of those days.

Not, at the moment, it does look pretty likely, yes, even down to lower levels, especially on Sunday. Some snow over northern england hills and north Wales too.

dont get too excited about a long lasting change. At the moment it looks quite brief.

met office reckon there may be a change in Feb/march.

So it certainly turns colder :) however, I'm not so sure about snow for scotland - though it will be cold enough by sunday, the precip seems to be going further south.

Proper cold now showing at the end of next week, but much drier too. Instead of it seesawing back up to warm the latest models show it getting cold right through to the end of the model run.

I have written winter off this year. :(

And the sodden, yet growing, grass is annoying me. I want to mow the lawn!

Don't write it off :) it was always expected to be a tale of two halves.

GloriaSmud · 06/01/2016 10:27

I noticed the cold lasting right through 'til the end of the run ~ will be interesting to see whether it happens.

I'm in north east England and I'd quite like this rain to stop! The local news reckons we'll have snow at the weekend but I'm only seeing a bit of sleet on Friday in the forecast.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/01/2016 11:25

I dont think you will see much in the way of snow, but it looks like you will have a decent break from rain soon.

Aha I'm in Scotland the weekend. And part of bed week. Excellent love a bit of snow.

We've had a bit of an east wind in Edinburgh for the last few days. So feeling a bit more wintery. Snow forecast over the hills tonight.

I don't think that storm is going to bother us too much although there are some metoffice weather warnings for bands of rain/snow coming from it (doesn't help those areas that have been flooded.) There's a low pressure system that's forecast to develop within/spins off that storm though and that's what will give rain/snow over the weekend (I hope I'm reading things right chart-wise there!)

Things look to be turning much colder next week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2016 13:10

That sounds about right Gloria :)

Winter starts this weekend for parts of scotland and by mid week should be with us all, for some potential for snowfall at times across pretty much anywhere by the end of the week.

MagpieCursedTea · 07/01/2016 13:22

Yay snow! I check the forecast several times a day at the moment hoping for snow Blush
