met office warnings.
On a side note ~ BBC news report that it's the Metoffice's first named storm.
Updated warnings.'Tis a nasty looking storm.
Global map of wind speeds (could be StormAbigail off in the middle of the ocean there?)
I'll be at work for the worst of it tomorrow night. All hatches battened down, torches working, fire laid in case power goes off. Will report back when I can.(Western Isles)
Stay safe, Ginfox.According to the metoffice, gusts of 70-80 mph are likely but could hit 90mph in exposed places.
amber warnings are out.Good luck Gin!
I'm right at the edge of the amber warning. I'm sending everyone home early today. The predicted peak in windspeed is around 6pm for us.
Sensible Igne, stay safe
Right, I think Abigail has reached Northern Argyll.Hail and thunder here at the moment.
Absolutely howling in Stornoway just now. All schools closed tomorrow, buses cancelled. Gusts of 90mph recorded in Barra and South Uist. But this happens often enough that we're mostly prepared, so no worries. How's everyone else?
Good to hear you are ok Gin. It was wild here earlier, not featured in the warnings but we live in a very exposed spot on a rock in the Irish Sea, gusts of 75+ at school pick up time this afternoon. But as you say, we are used to it. My main concern was DD2 opening a car door & it flying open & denting the next door car
