Are we heading straight into autumn with no Indian summer?

I live in the south east and the leaves have already started changing colour and the light just seems so autumnal.

There was a real chill to the air last night and DH and I both commented on how it seems autumn has come early, which seems to be supported by websites such as Metcheck.

So it that it? Are we heading straight into autumn this year with no September warmth?

the children have not gone back to school yet. You should know that the weather is nice before they break up, and after, but not while they are off on holiday.

I was saying to my Mum around the middle of July that it felt like autumn (or "back-end-ish of summer" as she called it) already. And from what I can tell, it's not looking like it's going to improve much either ~ after tomorrow it looks like there'll be sunny spells/showers but night-time temperatures could be in single figures, especially in Scotland.
Meh, just meh.

Somehow I don't think we're going to be trick or treating in t-shirts like we did last Halloween at this rate.

It was so mild last October I wasn't wearing tights even.

This 'summer' has been unremittingly dismal and depressing. Apart from a couple of scorching weeks back in early June (when we were having building work done...), the best days have been more 'nice for February' than 'lazy English summer'.

I'm fed up and thinking of emigrating!

i'm afraid the models are suggesting that. Perhaps some pleasant weather around for a few days but no real heat.

It's making me feel pretty glum. I love crisp sunny autumn days with lovely woolly tights and big boots, but this overcast drizzly not one thing nor tother weather is rubbish Sad

I've got no tomatoes this year. Beans have loved the wet but so have the slugs. My children have barely worn their t shirts and I've hardly used any suncream!

We've cancelled many picnics and get togethers; now inviting people over for lunch and serving a full roast! Usually in August it would be salads etc

Currently wearing long sleeve thick top and a cardigan. I suddenly felt really cold earlier. It's windy and rained yesterday when we were at the beach.

I do like autumn but not this bloody early!

And my memory may be playing tricks on me but I'm sure it was like this in 2009 when we ended up having that terrible cold winter because DS was a baby and I can distinctly remember it being summer one day, autumn the next.

It's been such a poor summer. Angry feel really cheated.

My little pony has started to grow her winter coat - doesn't usually happen until October ..... but Autumn is my favourite time of year. Casseroles, steamed puddings, cosy house, log fire and I can walk the dog/exercise without glowing bright red for hours.

I've wandered around Newcastle this morning in a t shirt and 3 quarter trousers and was actively warm sitting On the quayside. Come to the north! It's lovely up here!

Would love to Pottering, just sitting out 2 years more at work until we can move North Grin.

I'm sorry for all of you who love summer but I'm relieved! Can't cope with the heat and I love Autumn / Winter.

I'm also in the South East. Feel dismally cheated this summer as am on
maternity leave and back to work in Sept, and was really looking forward to spending the last of maternity leave out in the sunshine doing long summer walks and going to the beach (lets be honest, after you've finished full-time education maternity leave is likely to be the only chance you get to have summer off before retirement). In reality we've been rained in most of August and I am properly miffed. To add to this I found a conker recently. A bloody conker. So yes, apparently it's autumn already. [sulks]

Grin we've been lucky this year; it's usually a bit like living in a fridge in the north east but we've had a lovely summer.

Re 2009 - my FB memory page for yesterday records that I had put the heating on that day Shock

Haven't had to this August (yet...) although there was one day in July when I did!

I was talking to my mum this morning about this. We noticed that the starlings are getting together like they do every year before the migrate. This normally happens end of September/October time.

It's like Autumns already here and winter going to be a long one.

I think it's on it's way. Although I think we are going to have one or 2 really nice days through September (around 20-25) before it sets in completely come October.

I am happy about that though as I have been going through my winter boxes and swapping things out ready for washing and bought myself a couple of lovely new pairs of tights and boots Smile

It's not been a bad summer down here and June and July were too hot (for me) at times but it seems we're hurtling towards autumn rather than gently going towards it!!
