issued by the metoffice.
Heavy rain/thunderstorms coming up from France, moving in from the east. Bit of uncertainty how far west/north it might move so warnings could change.

Thanks Gloria, been out for the day. There is massive uncertainty as to how much rain will fall where but there could be flash floods as up to two inches of rain fall. In parts of northern france the storms could be severe with a chance of moderate tornadoes developing there. We need to see you that translates here but I fear its going to be a case of now-casting.

Really really impressive storm system in France last night. Question is, how much of it will influence what happens here....

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/07/2013 07:31

And the answer to that is... Well that storm system just grazes Kent in the next few hours. But you'll have to wait for next update from me as I've run out of time :(

I think we did, Susan, was a close one there! Hope your cousin and neighbours are OK.

Kent storm system showing up here at the moment (along with a reminder of that lightning page on netweather!)

Possible storms over the weekend have made the BBC news website.

Looks like that storm system is swinging up into E. Anglia. Watch out Norfolk and Suffolk.

Hi OhYouBadBadKitten, do you know what the weather will be like in Bournemouth. A friend is holding an outdoor charity event and the met office is giving severe weather warnings. Thankyou.

Bournemouth is ok so far . It looks quite bright. Storms were forecast here yesterday but it was really hot and sunny. Which charity event?

It's a back garden event for MacMillan. They were expecting over 60 people to attend and have spent a fortune on food. Sad Thankyou OhYouBadBadKitten it's better to be forewarned.

If they are able to scrabble some gazebos together that would help, but get her to guy the down properly as there could be some big gusts about.

Looks like 2pm for Bournemouth. Some very heavy rain showing on the radar which scrapes Dorset with the majority passing over Hampshire/Sussex/Kent.
Also some rain showing up to the west but not looking as impressive on the radar -yet. There is plenty of chance for it to beef up.

In the mean time we are running a full 9C hotter than the met office forecast for this area, so I would take any met office forecasts on the potential intensity of the storms with a pinch of salt. Hotter usually means more kaboom. (More energy)

Thankyou for the update. The charity event is due to start at 4pm.

tks OYBBK still hot and humid here will prepare for 4 pm! - DH trying to mow lawn in anticipation of rain ( not sure of the logic of that but I know better than to advise him otherwise )

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 27/07/2013 14:33

Well I've mown the lawn, put away the gazebo, the windows are pulled to and I'm watching the netweather.tv radar page. Looks like it has hit the coast at Brighton, am I right?

Cloud is building - cloyingly humid and hot - sun still out - mowing abated for the moment! - going to dead head and tie in roses before the onslaught...
