Gardeners beware - weather

Quick heads up for keen gardeners, whilst the weather does look set to get warmer for many this week, at the moment it does look like the temps will drop sharply at the end of the week with the risk of frosts by saturday.

If you've got tender stuff in already, youve got just a few days to get some fleece or whatnot to get it all covered on friday night!

bastard weather

Thanks for that Kitten.

you are welcome, if things change I'll cancel the 'alert'!

It's not fair! I've got little carrot seedlings germinating. last year they refused to do anything and this year they've decided to co-operate. I'm going to sit out there at night with my hairdryer all night long and keep them warm I reckon!

I just did a short stint at pruning my many dead thin brances of my Kerria Japonica - it has its tiny buds of little pom-pom yellow flowers already and usually blooms in May.
Soon afterwards back indoors, my hamstrings of my gammy leg are killing me. Did 2 hours last weekend and no damage Shock Angry.

Digerd :( Hope it eases soon!

OYBBK - poor little things, good job you love them :)

Do you have any updates for the weather in (southern) Wales from Friday to Monday - still can't decide whether to go or not?

Nooooo.... :-(
First year of being green fingered. Don't want my poor little cucumber plants/tomato plants/green beans to be ruined!

Ok- will fleece. It'll all be fine (deep breaths). Could I use a couple of handtowels instead?

Hand towels would be fine if you don't squash them! Just remember to remove them later in the day.

I was just admiring all the new shoots of my new-last-year hydrangea bed which cost me a lot. Please don't let the frost wreck it!

Thank you :) We are going to go so hopefully the rain wont be too bad!

Do you think I need to do anything for my baby oak tree - he's still only a tiddly thing mostly due to the neighbours cat eating him last year he's about 20cm and has just sprouted some new greenery.

This is all very well, but whom do we complain to?

And what is going to be done about it?

Somebody in weather is not doing their job properly and they must pay.

Min temp in my living room last night was 20.5 - wow, no heating required in the morning for the first time. Smile

The air is still fresh, thanks to a fresh breeze, atm.

chipping Getting better slowly, thanks. I will not stretch down with straight knees again, although my other leg was fine Confused Sad

Just seen the weather in SE for tomorrow on TV and it's supposed to rain in the night - hooray. Just hope it stops in time for little dog's walk.

Just hope we do get it as often we don't. Still haven't got round to mending my hosepipe !

Just looked out the window and no sign of it going to rain tonight.

They did say by midnight. Hope they haven't got it wrong for Thames valley North, as we seem to be the driest part of the country and my garden and pots need rain, please!!

Thank you.
I have lettuce, Coriander, spinach and pumpkins out, along with cornflower and other butterfly happy plants.

Yeah Smile. It did rain in the night, but not enough.
And just as the forecast said, we had a reduction in temperature of 8 degrees and went to +8 last night which it still is.
No frost though, suppose that is for tomorrow morning.

Just noticed it's raining atm. We needed more, but had hoped it would pour down in the night and be dry and sunny in the morning < no harm in wishing>

It was lovely, with a refreshing wind 20 minutes ago. As I got with little dog to the fields, saw the dark skies in the north and the wind was coming from that direction too, but we were still in the sun and at the same time it hailed tiny hailstones all over us. Now stopped, at least 5 minutes away at home Confused

Report
digerd · 26/04/2013 16:08

And sunny again. We had 14 degrees, now 13.

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/04/2013 16:15

Tonight the main risk for frost seems to be confined to the welsh borders now. Saturday night the risk is more widespread.
