Whats your worst fear during cold weather and why?

Mine is ours and my Mum's boiler breaking down and the implications. Our old boiler broke down 10 times in 10 years, so got paranoid about it. My Mum's boiler packed up on the coldest day in the winter of 2010/11, my husband came home early to get our heaters down to her - there was a snow blizzard at the time, some cars had been abandoned and he doesn't know how he got home safely.

Anyway, our old boiler could not be repaired last November so had a new condensing boiler but am sure I'll be out with the neighbours defrosting the condensing pipe - the two opposite are out 2/3 times a year. What fun.

Without a doubt, driving. I wont go any near my car. I hate seeing cars stuck or slliding out of control up and down roads.

Driving. I hate driving in the snow and it actually makes me feel sick to think about getting to work when the weather is bad.

My boiler did break down this morning and is only 5 years old. It survived the 2010 winter fine. British gas came quickly to repair it, but it had suddenly come on all by itself after I had reset it 5 times . The condensing trap was clogged, apparently. Dreading it happening tomorrow. Hope it was just the Gremlins, who have gone elsewhere to annoy somebody else.
My worse fear though is to slip and fall outside.

When we had the last really bad snow my road had an electrical fault that left us with mo electricity and therefor so light or heating for 3 days, it was so cold they sent the red cross round with tea and blankets, so I would have to say loss of power is my biggest fear in bad weather. It really is amazing how cold a house can get after 3 days with no heating at all.

Falling over, followed by the boiler breaking. But this year I seem to have a whole new irrational fear of the pipes freezing.

Slipping on the ice, falling over and knocking myself unconscious.

I did it once years ago and am absolutely terrified of it happening again.

My elderly parents live 100 miles away. Mum doesn't drive so she insists on walking down their very steep hill to the shops every day. My dad is laid-up at home following surgery lastl week and still my 80 year old mother (who has a bad knee and osteoporosis and who has broken her wrist 3 times now) ignores the treachorous icy/snowy conditions to risk life and limb to do her unnecessary daily shop.

I am so worried about them, they have no other family or close friends nearby Sad

Boiler breaking down so no hot water or heating.
Water freezing.
Electricity cut off.
Falling over.
Crashing car.
Running out of food
Generally epic style disaster! What was the name of the film? Day After Tomorrow?
I think I have anxiety issues. Hmm

Driving or not being able to. Two years ago in Edinburgh we had a mini ice age. Due to the snow plows I had a 2ft bank of rock hard snow/ice against my car for weeks. Public transport was maintained to an extent but I needed to get somewhere urgently to help someone and couldn't make it SadSad
