mankyscotslass Fri 08-Jul-11 11:06:45

I wonder if we will get storms here?

Apparently there were some rumbles of thunder yesterday afternoon/early evening, but I never heard it!

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 08-Jul-11 11:11:38

Will be interesting to see how it pans out. Well worth keeping an eye on the skies today!

mankyscotslass Fri 08-Jul-11 11:47:40

I just hope it waits til after lunch duty!

GinnyWeasley88 Fri 08-Jul-11 11:51:29

GloriaSmud Fri 08-Jul-11 12:46:16

Just had a few rumbles of thunder here (Leicester)
It's gone very black looking westwards!

GloriaSmud Fri 08-Jul-11 12:52:42

Ginny ~ some weather/nature-related names for you (from BabyHold website)

Aurora, Autumn, Celeste, Gail/Gale, Heavenly, Kaia (Earth), Rainbow, Rayne, Star, Summer, Sunshine, Sunny/Sonny, Windy/Wendy, or Winter.

Erm, it's gone really dark here!

GinnyWeasley88 Fri 08-Jul-11 13:20:27

Ah they are all lovely, smile (dp raised eyebrows at Rainbow) its such a shame I have already got her name selected and it isn't slightly weather related.
Weather wise, we have just been getting rained on on and off all day, am in Birmingham.

Sounds like you are going to get quite a storm!! smile

GloriaSmud Fri 08-Jul-11 13:59:15

I quite liked Aurora from that list!
We had torrential rain for about 10 minutes, 1 flash of lightning and a few more rumbles of thunder and that was it.

Labradorlover Fri 08-Jul-11 16:14:01

4 hours of rumbling, some lightning and heavy downpours in East Scotland. Have rarely ever heard so much thunder here.

mankyscotslass Fri 08-Jul-11 17:40:24

had heavy showers on and off all day.

Just had a couple of really loud long rumbles, but no lightning.

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 08-Jul-11 17:56:19

reports of severe flooding in Edinburgh in the news. I missed that one!

Labradorlover Fri 08-Jul-11 22:05:27

OYBBK, the wind and clouds were really strange today. At the start the wind was from the East ( confirmed by the planes taking off from Edinburgh airport out towards the sea and cloud movement ) but at the same time clouds were moving in slowly from the SW. Lots of clouds, anvil shaped ones and ones that seemed like layers with bits trailing down from them. IYSWIM .
Incredible sized raindrops as well.

bilblio Fri 08-Jul-11 22:17:15

We've had weird weather east of Manchester. Blue skies either side of us, but torrential rain at about 6pm. It woke me up (bad pregnancy day) I thought it was hail it was so heavy. A couple of rumbles of thunder but in the distance.

I've never have thought of my name as weather related before either. I'm the C one.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks Fri 08-Jul-11 22:28:44

LL - sounds like you had some really decent shear. I'm interested in the description of the clouds 'like layers with bits trailing down' I'm on the netbook atm, so if you don't mind I'll come back to you tomorrow - I'm wondering if it is possibly mammatus or maybe some scud hanging from clouds

biblio, it looks like there was a potential tornado in westhoughton

any reports/observations from that area very very welcome.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks Fri 08-Jul-11 22:39:29

torro would welcome any observations from around the westhoughton area

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks Fri 08-Jul-11 22:49:33

tornado in bognor too again torro would appreciate any weathe obs around that time in that area.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks Fri 08-Jul-11 22:53:42

shock should have said potential tornado in Bognor, no proof yet it was one. That is very naughty of me.
