i have looked at 3 different forecasts and got 3 different predictions- met office says showers on and off all day, met check says showers in morning and evening but sunny in afternoon, bbc weather says cloudy but warm and dry. its my 30th birthday and i am meant to be doing a bbq for 60 people. help????

I've looked at different models for you. I'm scratching my head rather. A trough goes through with heavy rain in the night I think then hopefully the rain will clear. The met office says it will - with a nice afternoon for you now! Certainly very warm. However, when I look at the precipitation output the models all have light rain in the afternoon. This is a case where I still have things to learn!

Go with the bbq - dont panic if its really wet over night and in the morning - it should at least become lighter for you, if not clear altogether. Watch out for thunderstorms in the afternoon if the sun does come out though a very distinct possibility.

if anyone knows any better - please jump in!!

thank you lovey, i dont mind a little bit of rain, unfortunately the rain that is forecast is set to be right when i am due to begin cooking having lit the bbq at 3pm. i have a large gazebo but dont really think i can cook under it. i need to put the gazebo up today though, will it be ok? i dont want to kill a brand new gazebo the first time i use it.

I would certainly peg it down very well in case the wind gets up with any storms. My other concern is potential hail tonight. I've not seen anything to particularly suggest that though so I would put it up this afternoon and keep an eye out this evening on the thread and if the storm risk increases be prepared to take it down again!

not too worried about tonight as gazebo is pretty sturdy and is tied down well. more concerned about tomorrow really

Look at this website for the actual radar images of where the rain is, and the direction it is moving.

thing is Piste - storms will actually be developing through the day, so its not quite a good predictor as usual.

well gazebo is bent and battered but still standing. dont think the lights will work though even though they are outdoor ones and underneath it. its raining, and its forecast to rain all day so i think the bbq will become an indoor party. am quite upset actually as the forecast for tomorrow is lovely, why couldnt it have been todaySad

Cherry - how was it in the end?

I'm hoping your weather brightened up? We were forecast awful weather today and it was bad to start, but then improved against the forecast. Hope you had the same

the weather was ok in the end, the gazebo was fine, and it stayed dry long enough to get the food cooked on the bbq. started raining about 7pm, and a good time was had by all. thanks ladies x
