I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

There has been very little in the way of rain here either OYBBK.

And a couple of fairly serious moorland fires too.

My mum reckons that is was like this at the start of the 1976 drought, but I really don't remember much aparart from being in shorts and sandals for moths, and that was in West Coast Scotland!

I don't remember much about the '76 drought either, other than my Grandma dancing with me barefoot in the puddles in the first rain storm that broke it and the wonderful smell of rain:)

My water butt is empty - I can't remember when that last happened. And I feel weirdly guilty watering the garden unless it's from the butt - I'm getting a bit obsessed about the whole rain/seedlings issue.

'76 drought I remember well, because it was the year we moved to England. I thought it was just standard in England for water to come out of taps in the street (we had standpipes) rather than houses - that our mother had moved us to some strange backwards country :o.

We haven't had any rain at all here for at least a month (leicestershire) and very very little for 2 months or so before that. I was recording recipitation for my OU module and kept noting 0mm week after week. Everything is dry as a bone and the various thunderstorms around now and then have missed us too,

There's a brisk breeze here today too, but glorious sunshine.

Those fires are bad OYBBK.

DS1 has just been to a friends birthday party. Bet the parents were grateful they could chuck 15 nine year olds in the garden rather than have them in the house.

I'm going to have to water the veg tonight . (well the pots with carrots and beans for the kids in).

Everywhere is so dry.

very dry here in wiltshire. garden all dry and cracked, grass yellow and my (very small) pond has virtually dried up (no fish so going to give it a clean out anyway)

southern Wales and parts of the far SW seems to have a chance of rain tomorrow. Western parts may have some on thursday too. Other than that, unless the odd thunderstorm comes along, another very dry picture across the uK this week.

We got back from holiday yesterday and the edge of the lawn at the front of the house, near the driveway, has a brown edge to it. Those bits usually only go brown in the middle of the summer so it shows how dry it's been.

(OT ~ OYBBK, I think we were in your area of the country yesterday. We decided to make a detour and show DDs Stonehenge on the way back from Devon so drove Salsbury/Newbury way. Think you're over that way?)

About an hour east-ish from there Gloria :) I hope you had a good holiday.
We've decided to embrace the drought in part and let the guinea pigs be responsible for all mowing until decent rain makes it grow rapidly. hooray!

The plus side of all this dry weather is it's saving me a fortune on heating and also drying the washing....can't remember the last time I had to put the tumble drier on.

Glorious here again today, it feels warmer than yesterday already.

My water butt was emptied over 3 weeks ago. I have resorted to using the hosepipe on the veg I don't want to lose.

I love not having to take coats and rain covers out with me though.

Can it rain a little bit overnight please?

STOP TALKING ABOUT IT OR THE SUN WILL GET OFFENDED AND HUFF OFF!

Seriously, we have a very easily offended sun in the UK. You must never ever talk about it negatively, or hint that you would prefer rain, or it will disapprea for the rest of the year and we'll have floods.

You can solve the lack of rain with a hosepipe - you can't solve a lack of sun.
NOW SHUSH!

Dear sun,

You make me very hot, sweaty and icky. You make me feel sick. I can't take the children out as I am very grumpy sitting in the sun.
I hate it in my eyes and can't walk anywhere as I start to sweat like a pig on a spit.

Please send copiuos amounts of rain, thunder that makes the windows rattle and lightning that lights up the night sky.

If only for a couple of days
