That coincides with what the postman told me today-he reckons that the snow will be back before the end of the week.I prefer snow or frost to this nasty damp mizzley weather we have now.

no snow is forecast for the rest of this year the met office was saying , besides the fact there is only a few more days before the end of the year comes to an end.

I think it's more milder weather from here on in, temperatures that we should be having for this time of year

I saw some long range reports that seem to suggest that it will be milder for this week and up to the weekend, but then next week the temp takes a downward turn again, and the snow is likely to return.

Looks like it turns colder from the 2nd onwards. Not as cold as the previous spell to start and probably less of the white stuff too at least in the short term. Question is - will it develop into another snowfest or will it be cold and boring?.

In the mean time, round here it is proper Dickensian style fog.

Cold and frosty is good in my book

I guess this is the week if you need to get any shrubs moved in the garden before you need an icepick again.

The fog has boggered my hair up big time, I look like Curly Sue.

They just said on the BBC forecast that the cold weather moves in from the north again from the 2nd onwards.

We've had fog here too today and it's been all damp and drizzly. Would prefer to have mild and damp for New Year's Eve; would rather not stand outside in freezing temperatures, watching fireworks at midnight!

Not totally weather related but I got a real surprise when I went into the garden just before it got dark. I built a pond this year and we've had 3 frogs living in it over the summer ~ 1 female and 2 males. I hadn't seen any of them since the end of October and thought they'd all gone to wherever frogs go/hibernate during the winter. This afternoon though I happened to glance down at the pond and saw the female one under the ice, looking up at me! I thought she wasn't alive at first but when I tapped the ice, she hid under a plant. It's a shallow pond; probably 20cms at its deepest and it still hasn't totally 'defrosted' yet although there's water at the edges of it. But if the frog's been in there the last couple of weeks, she must have found a good spot, possibly under a large stone or something because that pond's been frozen solid since the beginning of December!

Well, it is still uncertain as to whether the cold will return or not! GFS shows mild for next week, ECMWF says cold. UKMO also seems to be going for the cold option! I suspect that the UKMO and ECMWF are closer to the truth.

Another update from theweatheroutlook. Still looks like we're on for cold and frosts, but they're not sure whether they'll be snow or heavy rain, or where it'll fall.

I'm off to my parents for a combined Christmas/New Year/Birthday (Dad's birthday today) get together. Hope to be back on here tomorrow when I've recovered from the hangover late night! So have a good evening and a Happy New Year to you all!

It still is uncertain which will win!!!! Some models show the cold and some show the warm. Snow is quite likely in Scotland maybe as early as Monday (or tomorrow in the far NE of Scotland)

Happy New Year OYSSK!

I wish it would get a bit colder and crisper again, I hate damp foggy days, I feel like it's permanently November!

Did you read about the Tornado out breaks in the US yesterday? Again, early in the season and some of them out of the usual alley zone....makes me wonder about that programme I saw, concetnnig La Nina/El Nino and the moving Jet stream!
