From the Metoffice. Mostly the eastern side of the country being prone to heavy snow over the next few days.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 27-Nov-10 16:14:18

thanks Petunia I'm probably not going to be around much for the next 24 hours - dd is having a few friends for a sleep over. (help!)

<<<<<<<<<passes OYBBK some wine>>>>>>

I hope it does snow properly (although we appear to be forecast to miss most of it) I'd rather be freezing cold with snow on the ground to show for it than just cold.

noddyholder Sat 27-Nov-10 16:37:38

I am in Brighton do you think sussex will get snow?

winterpetunia Sat 27-Nov-10 16:38:28

<Passes OYBBK chocolate as well!> Good luck with that!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 27-Nov-10 16:41:06

Brighton does look possible - that low is still sitting in the channel jusy brushing the coast.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 27-Nov-10 16:41:29

Oh dear. Do you need more wine? Chocolate? Can we offer a darkened room ready when the sleepoverees have gone tomorrow?

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 27-Nov-10 21:09:19

I will always happily accept wine but.....

they have all got themselves into their sleeping bags and got books out without any bidding. dd has got them all water and in general they are quietly-ish talking. Bit puzzled about the elephant I can hear stamping about though hmm

winterpetunia Sat 27-Nov-10 21:18:03

Wow, just the word 'sleepover' has me thinking of children making noise until 3am. Perhaps you're in luck and it'll be a quiet night. As for the elephant, perhaps one of them brought a pet!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 27-Nov-10 21:22:14

I reckon it will go all noisy again once I say 'lights out' until then I'm making the most of it.

poor cats are hiding outside. I (for once) hope it doesnt start snowing!

winterpetunia Sun 28-Nov-10 10:01:27

Have you survived the night, OYBBK?

winterpetunia Sun 28-Nov-10 10:25:39

More metoffice updates.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sun 28-Nov-10 10:44:10

yup! Got people coming for lunch - then this evening I can collapse.

dd and her friends were amazing though - turned their own light out at 10, and the noise had stopped by 10:30. Apart from a couple of wakenings in the night there was peace til 6am. I however was so worrying about whether they would be ok (sick/scared/nightmares) that I got almost no sleep.

So whats the weather going to do today then? low of -5.2, still -2.8C. Radar looks exactly like it did yesterday.

winterpetunia Sun 28-Nov-10 10:52:55

Glad you got through the night OK, you'll probably be done in by tonight, hope you've chosen something easy to make for Sunday lunch!

As for the weather, I've been looking at the Rainfall section on the metoffice site and they give a big splodge of blue over the Midlands for Tuesday and Wednesday. A few other sites have us down for heavy snow showers as well. What do you think about the week ahead when it comes to snow?

saorachd Sun 28-Nov-10 12:24:20

How is it possible to be in an Arctic blizzard but there is thunder and lightening too?

This is scary and weird.

mankyscotslass Sun 28-Nov-10 12:25:20

I think it's called Thunder snow....OYBBK is the one to ask!

BangingNoise Sun 28-Nov-10 12:28:04

it says snow for us in Yorkshire, but it's clear skies and sunshine at the moment, although it is freezing.

noddyholder Sun 28-Nov-10 13:44:10

It snowed here in brighton for about 45 mins this morning but didn't lie and was quite light and blowy.pretty though

rosieposey Sun 28-Nov-10 13:50:56

I was in Chicago for a couple of weeks a few years ago and there was one of the worst snowstorms in 20 years whilst i was there. I remember looking out of the hotel window at the blizzard outside and it was thunder and lightning too.

Its the first and only time i have seen (and heard) thunder and lightning with snow - it was snowing very very hard though.

seeker Sun 28-Nov-10 17:20:33

There was thunder snow in Margate this morning. Wish I'd seen it - it must have been amazing!

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns Sun 28-Nov-10 17:21:14

It was -7 when I came in at 5pm,was -10 when I went out across he fields this morning.I have never been so cold in my life.
Our washing machine is in an outbuilding and hasn't defrosted 'til lunchtime the last few days.Today it didn't defrost at all and the wet clothes were frozen inside it.I guess I'll have to handwash everything until we get a thaw.

No more snow though, which is a bit disappointing.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sun 28-Nov-10 20:04:31

thundersnow it is and just like a good onvective storm in summer, you can also get good convective storms in winter too. can be very eerie though.

back now - but need a very very early night. petunia, it looks like a pretty similar pattern to this week as far as I can tell. The south will prbably see a bit more snow action than it has done esp from tuesday on (we've had none!) Notable not only for the huge amounts of snow in some places, but for the astonishing cold for this stage of winter. Widespread temps of -15C by the end of the week.
