Going by train.....getting a bit wary

Will we end up sat on a station somewhere stranded

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 07:09:00

Will have a look for you in a few minutes Katymac

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 07:24:22

Oh thank you

If the worst comes to the worst I will have to decide between train & car - I wonder if I could fly (mind you that isn't much better than the others in the snow)

Maybe I'll leave earlier if there is a big risk

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 07:26:09

I think you have a reasonable chance of some light snow both ways. Impossible to quantify how much still. I think that you will be alright on the trains - but take warm clothing just in case!
I can look in another couple of days if you like to firm up the forecast.

It's such a long way & DD needs to be on top form when we arrive

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 08:09:17

It is a long way - perhaps choose your route carefully - is there a way of avoiding the pennines?

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 09:04:29

Hmm - not really I don't think

It's Norwich to Manchester; then on to Blackpool

Or Norwich to Peterborough to Leeds to Blackpool

Katymac - when do you need to know whether you are definitely going? It is some days off yet 9forecast wise) but the latest model run (they do vary a lot!) shows a fair amount on Saturday through sunday. It may well all change by then but......

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 17:13:27

National championships for DD on Saturday; so we kinda have to go

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 17:14:08

ok. I suppose the more important question is: how important is it you get back? (I think you should get there ok)

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 17:18:54

I have 2 days to get back I can leave between about 8pm on Saturday and anytime on Monday........I suppose (mind you we might have to close/cancel children etc but it might be snowy here so they might not come anyway hmmconfused)

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 17:21:43

I'm assuming train is safer than car but if trains get cancelled we would be stuck

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 17:37:42

Tricky. Are you planning to buy your ticket in advance if you go by train?

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 17:39:42

No, we have a privilege pass as DH is ex staff, so we can only buy a standard return (we just pay a lot less)

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 17:40:20

Excellent that takes a bit of the urgency out of planning whether to drive or train then.

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 17:49:27

Oh yes

However I am a complete control freak so I want contingency plans grin And possibly sub contingency plans

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Nov-10 17:51:44

I am exactly the same grin

bubblerock Tue 23-Nov-10 21:24:23

You can kip at mine if you get stranded grin. I'm just hoping the snow goes away as soon as it arrives - I need to get from Blackpool to Southampton on 10th Dec!!

KatyMac Tue 23-Nov-10 21:59:05

Thanks - I got told tonight it's not happening in the west

So I'm all confused

bubblerock Tue 23-Nov-10 22:03:13

I'll let you know if I see a single snowflake grin

Katymac - that is true at first. By Sunday anywhere could see the snow - and of course even if Blackpool (which tbh it may well not snow - being right on the coast and sea temps still being warmish) you have an awful lot of 'not west' to go through.

Anyhow, off to look at th latest model runs!

KatyMac Wed 24-Nov-10 09:10:52

Although the train might be safer, I am wondering if I will have more control if we drive (ie stopping when we want rather than being abandoned randomly)

But I also wonder if I am over thinking it

KatyMac Fri 26-Nov-10 07:45:54

About to look at the weather - should I be scared?

OhYouBadBadKitten Fri 26-Nov-10 07:51:29

I think you will be ok Katymac.
