weaning going badly

my dd is 6 1/2mths - I started weaning at 5 1/2 but she really wan't that interested - now at 6 1/2 she is even less interested - the only thing she likes is yogurt - I have given her loads of things from simple single veg puree to yummy combinations - nothing or a little tiny bit - even banana, mango or papaya - all yuk

what should I do - i can't just give her yogurt

Have you tried finger foods?

I started weaning DS2 at nearly 6 months, but he was nearly 7 months before he got the hang of it. We've given up on purees entirely. He eats banana, melon, meat, apple, pear, green beans, anything that's reasonably soft and a good shape for him to hold.

What sort of yogurt are you giving her? The sweetened stuff might put her off regular food, if you see what I mean.

Wait!
Sounds brutal but my DD was just like this, she eventually took some finger foods but no spoon passed her lips until 10 months, she will be 2 next week and hasn't suffered in the least.

Milk is still their prime source in the first year so don't panic! My ds used to treat me as if I was poisoning him until 8+ months. And now at nearly 12 months he is a human dustbin. Just keep offering the same foods every few days as they change so much in such a short space of time. And agree that he was more keen on soft finger foods (cucumber/banana/grated cheese and apple etc)

I think she would love finger foods - as everything goes into her mouth - I give her rice cakes and she muches at them - I am just worried that she might choke on finger food - she is only 6 1/2 and today she gagged on apple puree or else it was in disgust!!! I am giving her the 'little rachel' range of yogurt with no added sugar - even then they are quite sweet -

geogteach - when you say wait - do you mean stop feeding her altogether?

trixabell, I'm sure geogtech means no solids, just milk.

At any rate, my DS2 gagged a bit when we started finger foods, but soon got the knack. (He gagged, but never choked - was breating well throughout.) Ripe pear, pealed and cut into chip-shapes, is a good start - hard to choke on, no significant allergy risk, soft to chew. Oh, melons are good too, I don't know about allergies to them, though.

Despite having no teeth, now at eight months, DS2 just eats bits off my plate.

The Rachel's yogurts don't have added sugar, but they are very processed and smooth, I'd expect. (My DS2 is weird - the only purees he accepted, ever, were meaty ones. Even sweet things, off a spoon, are not acceptable.)

Hi my ds is 8mths old and while we got off to a reasonable start with solids things have gone downhill on a fast slope. He will have a few mouthfuls and then refuse. We just keep the routine going he gets his feeder on, goes in his chair, gets his cup and we try a bit of food. I usually will try 2 things and then get him down. I have had no success with finger foods he hasnt yet got the concept of chewing (no teeth) before swallowing and I have had to do the slap the back routine a few times. I am not stressign and will continue to try each day to encourage him. Young children will not starve themselves at this stage, hunger is an innate drive. Just keep calm and continue to offer small amounts, if finger foods are no success, leavea few days and try again.

Im not sure what my ds drinks in mls as he is bfeed but he still has around 4-5 nurses a day and up to 2 at night so it doesnt sound like too much milk to me.

well 20oz / 1 pint of milk (including breast milk would be enough)

Try cutting down her bottles and see what that does, maybe 4 - 5 oz for the 1st 2 bottle feeds, and 6 - 7 oz for the bedtime feeds + your normal breast milk to start with

is she is HUNGRY she WILL eat, if not hungry she proabably wont!
