DS2 has just turned one and has 240mls of formula a day (morning and night). I dropped his mid-afternoon bottle when he was about 9 months but have suddenly had a panic that I should have kept it on! Someone reassure me... And now he's one can I switch to cows milk? I know I should know this but I can't remember what I did first time round and I've given all my books away.

both dd and ds were on 2 milk feeds by 10 1/2 months. From the age of 1 the minimum recommended milk intake drops to 350mls (around 12OZ)so it is not so important as they can get the majority of nutrients through solid foods. Both my lo's also switched to cows milk at 1 year.

My DD is One next week [sob sob]
She currently is offered 3, 8oz bottles a day..
First thing about 7, one about 2.30/3 and one before bed about 7.30/8pm.
She usually drinks most of it but its there if she wants it. The afternoon one can be abit hit and miss.

Re cows milk.. We still have an almost full pot of powder left but when that starts running out I will start introducing cows milk.

Advice from my Dsis whos DD is 2 months older than my DD is to introduce it slowly. She went cold turkey and just swapped it all straight away and her DD had horrendous Diarrhoea untill her tummy got used to it.

DD is 11.5 months and we dropped it a couple of months ago but I still occasionally give her an afternoon bottle if she hasn't eaten much lunch or if we're out on the go and I haven't got any snacks to give her instead.

DOn't think it matters if they have more than two bottles though, just as long as they don't have less than 500mls a day if they're under 1.

We dropped the afternoon bottle when we switched DD to whole milk at almost 12 months. I have just replaced it with a snack, which is usually fruit. But, like CurryMaid says, it's OK to still give 3 bottles if you want to.
