Hi all, My son was a very hungery baby and ended up putting him on sma white (for hungry babies)(He is now 6 months old)

About a month and a half ago started weaning him he now has two large (tea spoons) of cereal mixed with water for breakfast.

Half a jar of baby food for lunch and (another half jar) dinner. (both with cooled boiled water as well)

With 6oz bottles of milk inbetween.

As I said hes a very hungery baby, the last few days has been waking up in the night and VERY early morning hungery

Normally sleeps throught the night.

Is it time to give him a bit more of the jars???

Any advice gladly recieved, thoughts or previous experience...

Kind regards K Hartnett

Yes, I'd feed him more solids, particularly before bedtime. Doesn't have to be jars though, you can make your own.

i would actually give more milk, which is more filling and should be the main source of nutrition for the first year.

agree taht you can make your own food, as he is 6 months old now, he is ready to eat what you are eating, you can offer finger foods alone, or jars/homemade puree/mash

you should also make his cereal in the morning with milk, and you can use cows milk

how many milk feeds is he taking?

when he wakes in the night, offer milk and same early in teh morning

milk , in terms of volume alone is more filling and calorific and nutritious than half a jar of baby food

at 6 months he can have more grown up cereal e.g. porridge, ready brek, weetabix and it can be made with cows milk or formula. Would he eat more food if you offered it as 2 tespoons of cereal and 2 half jars (I assume you mean the small ones) is not that much.

How many bottles is he having?

He could also be offered finger foods and more complex foods containing wheat (bread, pasta, etc), meat, dairy, etc

hungry baby milk is reallly for babies draining 9 oz bottles day and night

He was draining 8-9oz every 2 hours thats why the HV advised me to put him on sma white he was doing really well on that and his feeds more spaced apart. Been on that for about 3 months.

so he has reduced the amount of milk he is taking?

that is probably the reason he is hungry..

i would definitely offer more milk and give milk in cereal in the mornings
