DS is definately a breast man!

Seems satisfied by milk at 6.5 months. Most purees make him gag and that's just as they go into his mouth (nothing to do with gag reflex). Not really interested in finger food although gave a piece of toast a good sucking this afternoon. should I be worried he's not getting the vitamins he needs, or stop stressing and just get on with it?

Help, or I shall be forced to speak to the HV!

Definitely don't stress - 6.5 months is such early days. I followed baby-led weaning so DS only really started swallowing tiny bits at that point - go with the flow, try different things, textures, finger food and puree if you like, but mostly relax and let your DS investigate and explore food for now. If he seems satisfied by milk, that's because he is, it's his main source of nutrition and energy for some time. My DS is 9 MO and I still haven't consistently dropped any milk feeds, he's a breast man too! By the way the gag reflex is something they just need to work through, just be reassuring and talk him through it.

food is fun until they're one.

go with the flow. lots of babies aren't eating much at that age. it's all about learning what food is and figuring out what to do with it.
he'll be fine

It wasn't very helpful that the HV said "you need to get on with it", when I told her I'd waited until he was 6mo. He's only put on a pound in 6 weeks but is still in the 91st percentile (having dropped from 98th)! I wish professionals would be a little less prescriptive and treat each baby on an individual basis, it makes you panic, grrrr...

MadameCheese - I avoided the HV for a couple of months as DS wasn't really eating food. He was definitely a breast man too . He would taste a bit of this and that, but didn't really get into food until 9/10 months.

He is now 2.3 yrs and devours a whole range of things. He gradually gave up the bf, and I weaned him completely just before his birthday.

No need to panic IMO

My DS is also not taking to his food very well. He too is far more interested in my breasts! I keep offering purees and today we had minor success with carrot and pea puree. He managed at least 3 spoonfuls before he started raspberry blowing! Good luck!

Oh I'm so relieved by this thread! DS is also 6.5 months and a true breast man! He's really not that impressed with food. Eats a bit but still don't think he's made the mental connection. We're 2 weeks in and still on first tastes. Keep hearing how other babies are devouring whole bananas and have real poo! DS is so not there yet. Can't get him to take a bottle either but that's another story!
