Why are they not allowed food before 26 weeks, but they are allowed Calpol and teething gels and things like that?

I've been wondering.

because their digestive system is not mature enough to digest food.
Calpol, teething gels and the like are not food and are very easliy absorbed and are also usually used sparingly for illnesses.

I think it is because they are suspensions and so not digested like food. Kind of shoot straight through (once medication is absorbed into blood stream). I may be making this up though. I'm not sure. I make a lot of stuff up but totally belive it! smile

they don't need digesting, just absorbing, which their stomachs can do.

cause they're drugs and are meant to get through the gut to their bloodstream
