Dd is 20 weeks. Am going to try and hold off the solids until 23 weeks. Cannot imagine making it to 26.

Does anybody actually make it to 26 weeks?

Yes, DD was weaned at 26 weeks. She fed a lot in the weeks leading up to weaning but it was manageable. And tbh the food didn't make a diff to her feeding frequency or sleep really.

DD was 25 weeks and 3 days, if that helps !

my friend who had a baby similar time to me also waited until 26 weeks.

lots of people on here have waited until 26 weeks.

why can you not imagine making it to 26 weeks?

you can offer your baby finger food, and if they are sitting unaided, able to pick up a piece of food, get it to their mouth, chew and swallow, and have lost the tongue thrust reflex, chances are their gut is mature enough for food.

growth spurts are best satisified with milk, which is more filling and nutritious than a small amount of food

weaning onto solids is more abotu offering tastes, exploring textures and having a compliment, rather than a replacement to milk , food is for fun until you are one!

Yes.

Gave DD some banana the day she turned 26 weeks. For weeks we had relatives pressurising us to 'give her some real food', 'that baby's hungry', etc.

Even when she started solids she didn't really take to it until 10-11 months, always preferred breastmilk.

Now she's 20 months and eats loads!

Ds was 26 weeks when he was weaned from being exclusively breastfed, and fwiw he was a huge baby - on the 99.8th percentile at weaning.

Lots of people "make it" to 26 weeks - I don't understand the benefits of starting earlier - weaning is more work, and lots of mess! Wait until 26 weeks and start baby-led weaning is my tip - any earlier and you have to follow more strict rules about what they can eat, and they can't self-feed.

My DD was 24 weeks when I first started to try her on food, just the odd thing like a finger of butternut sqush, not everyday, every few days, trying different textures, she was 26 weeks before I started making the food regular. Giving her breakfast to start for a few days, the 2 meals a day and now 3 meals. She's 8.5 months

Ds was 25 1/2 weeks as everyone said if I gave him solids he would sleep through the night and I was desperate (he didn't and I was a bit )

Dd was 27 1/2 weeks as we were on holiday and ebf seened so much more convienient, she continued to gain weight at exactly the same rate.

Remember you wean your baby initially to teach them to eat, not to give them extra calories, a milk feed is far more nutritionally complete than 6 teaspoons of pear!

Good luck.

24 weeks under huge amount of pressure from HV. Very much regret it as don;t think DD was ready ... will wait until 26 weeks with next DC and do BLW just to be sure of readiness.

26 + 2. Why can't you wait? They really do eat hardly anything to start with so it's not going to make much of a difference to how much they feed, sleep or anything as far as I can tell.
