7mth old, was EBF until 6mths. Introducing solids, now slow weight gain, less sleep, and I think I now have less milk... is this normal??

Hello,

DS1 has been EBF up until 6mths and one week (we were on holiday). I have gradually introduced food, so he is used to carrot, baked potato, baked sweet potato, pear, melon, etc. etc.

When he was EBF he was happily trotting along between the 50th and 75th centiles, however, over the last month he has just gained 5oz.

This may be because I haven't been giving him enough food. He has the equivelant of 1-2 carrot portion sized meals a day. This is together with 5-6BFs.

The Health Visitor at baby weigh said I'm going way too slow and need to get him eating meat. This seems a bit of a rush as he was choking on little lumps only two weeks ago, though he can manage them now.

Today I made a real effort to give him a lot more. Hopefully I'm feeding him enough now ..

Could you let me know if this sounds about right?

6am - Full Pear
7am - BF
10am - BF
1pm - 125g of Cauliflower, Carrots Potato
1.15pm - BF
5.30pm - BF
6pm - 50g baked potato
7.30pm - 2/3 of a pear
8.15pm - BF
11.30pm - Dream BF

In addition - he had started to wake every 2 hours, though as he's a good sleeper we haven't had to get up, he's just cried for a few seconds. In addition, he's been a bit constipated, so I cut out the banana and avocado, and made sure potatos are served baked not boiled and mashed. This seems to have helped.

He also seems to be awake a lot more, and just cries at a lot of his normal nap times, so keeps himself awake. Is this just coincidence and he's having more 'up time'.I'm quite tired as he's only going down at 8pm and getting up at 6am, whereas he would go down at 7pm and sleep until 7pm.

Just one more question - my milk supply.

I'm worried this is dwindling as he feeds and cries as if he isn't getting enough. Is this the beginning of the end for me feeding him?

Sorry, but the health visitor has put me in a spin as I feel like I'm doing everything wrong.

Any help and advice much appreciated..

Thank you fellow night owls and early birds

Cor this might need Aitch's attention, so bumping for you.
My 6 1/2 month DS has put on 3oz in 3 weeks - very different to the half a pound a week he was putting on pre-weaning. I think it's because he's using up lots of energy on eating IYSWIM. He's just 'getting it' now plus weirdly he's been having more milk - but still no weight gain. I just think they go a bit funny on weight gain as soon as you start weaning. Stick with it and chant with us "food's for fun until they're one".

Thanks MrsJamin - it sounds like we're in the same boat.

After eating the bigger portions yesterday he slept all the way through with no cries or gurgles, so that seems more like normal.

Today he polished off half a sweet potato (approx 150g) for breakfast and the same for lunch. He's had a bit of normal potato for dinner with a pureed apple, so he seems to be increasing his appetite.

Will be interested what the experts think, especially to the advice I've had to give meat, which my instinct tells me he's not quite ready for yet.

Let me know how you get on,

Cheers
