Constipation... Which food to avoid/introduce?

My little one is 5 months and we've just started weaning - everso gradually. She loves her solids and will seemingly wolfe down whatever I give her... but she keeps getting a bit bunged up - not properly constipated but definitely sluggish with very solid movements which she seems to find hard to pass.

I've had so much conflicting advice on which foods do what (e.g. do pears help or make the problem worse?) that I was hoping you wise ladies on here may help me out...

In your experience which food do I best avoid, and which should I introduce to help her?

She's still having all her milk before her solids and I'm attempting to give her sips of water/pear juice from time to time in between in the hope that hydration will also help.

I'd much appreciate any suggestions...

Many thanks,
DB

rice and bananas can be constipating (although bananas can go either way - it depends on the child really)

Hi designer baby, DD 28 weeks, I had same problem when I started weaning. I mix a little bit of pure prune juice in with her porridge on a morning and I use wholegrain baby porridge (Plum make one gluten free) rather than the baby rice, I also offer her water from a cup for every meal and she takes quite a lot of it, this seems to keep her nice and loose!!
