DD2 is now 24weeks, and have been giving her baby rice and purees for a couple of weeks.

I know it early but she doesn't like milk and i have struggled since she was born to feed her. Although she is 16lb 6oz (9lb 2oz at birth)she is only drinking about 20oz's a day, each bottle can take over an hour for her to drink.

I realy don't wont to go down the route of puree's again i struggled weaning dd1 (she was the opposit loved her milk.).

How do you start?, do you just give steamed veg? if so what.

Do i need to know anything else.

I started at about 24 wks with steamed broccoli and carrots and pieces of banana and apple. TBH, DD was almost far more interested if she thought she was having a bit of my plate and most of what she was given for the first few weeks was squished between fingers and smeared over the highchair table rather than eaten. She's cracking now though - will eat anything.
the BLW site will be an enormous help. And someone more knowledgable will be along shortly I;m sure.

that's my site, lizzie, have a look on that. but yes, basically you've got it right, just finger-shaped bits of steamedveggies to start, it's easy.

yes go on aitches blog, it started me off, and gives you loads of ideas.
did the puree thing with dd1 and dd2, but found out about blw with ds, and it s been briliant,
I just started letting him suck and lick things we were eating, so he was just getting a taste. Then I started putting things on the high chair tray, like broccoli, and roasted butter nut squash and sweet potato, then toast, slices of tomato and so on. He;s 9 mo now and eats so much, and never turns his nose up to anything !

Also, really important point is don't stress and don't count! If she takes some great, if not still great. BLW is about allowing them to do it in their own time so it doesn't matter how much they get they will find their appetite when they're ready.

Fraid I can't answer about fluids.

hi lizzie.

I've done the puree thing for my other 2. been doing blw for a couple of days ds2 is 26 weeks today. when should he actually start swallowwing stuff then?

I've just surcomed to mashing up the lovely perfectly ripe pear and spoon feeding him - couldn't just let the dog have it (after 3 days shes looking plumper!)

loler, it's individual, each baby will do it when they're ready and their development is in alignment.

fling some bioled veg and pasta across the table. DS2 loved BLW, but didn't eat any fodds in any quantity until he was 10 months.

Just to add, when DS2 (now 17mo) is really hungry he prefers mashed up food as he can wolf more down

DD2 (7 months) will eat anything if made into a very squashed sandwich, eg babyfood sandwich, Philadelphia, ham, grated cheese (sticks to bread better), hummus etc. Have to stick to bread with reduced salt or homemade which is a bit of a faff, not sure when they're allowed commercial salt level bread. I cut off the crusts if they're hard and give them to her separately.
