Weaning

Forced to wean 20 month old

I have been happily breastfeeding DD aged 20 months up to 3 times per day but have recently been told to wean her completely due to medical reasons. Only trouble is that DD refuses to wean. Have tried most things but she refuses to give up. Any suggestions?

Are you sure there is no choice but to wean?

I know sometimes it is the only option - I had to wean like this and it was awful. I still feel sad about it.

Hope you are ok.

Thanks Overated. I have thought about getting a second opinion. I was very upset initially but i have hope that problem will be a win/win situation.

Have you spoken with a BFC? They will be able to help you with tips for weaning...LLL do a book called "How weaning Happens" that is very good. Would definately recommend calling your local Leaders if you have a group nearby or their helpline if you don't.

Local Leaders numbers are here:
www.laleche.org.uk/pages/groups/groups.htm

LLL Helpline is 0845 120 2918 (24hr helpline)

They also have a facility for you to submit questions via an online helpform if you prefer:

I agree with OverRated though & would definately check that you do have to wean. A BFC will be able to help you find this out.

((hugs)) for you during this difficult time.

If you need any further advice Seca, then I would suggest that you repost this in the breast and bottle feeding topic, as 'weaning' here is meant to mean getting a baby on to solids. There are lots of helpful ladies who check the bf board.

Best of luck. I have no idea how I'd manage to achieve it with my 23 month old either.
