help! Rash around his mouth - does he have an allergy?

My 8 month old LO has just finished his breakfast and has come out in a red rash around his mouth, not spots or hives, looks more like a birth mark or a burn. He's had a little bit of my porridge with grated apple in, some goats milk yoghurt with a pureed prune and some more apple in, a tangerine and a couple of grapes. He's had all of this before with no reaction, so am I being paranoid or is he showing the first signs of an allergy?

forgot to say - he is fine apart from that! No signs of distress....I am not such a shoddy mother that I would post on mumsnet rather than call the doc if I thought he was unwell!

yes, but this rash came out during breakfast and is fading now since, so I can only think it must have been something he ate

This rash sounds IDENTICAL to what happens to DD10mths when she eats something with tomato in it. At first I thought it was teething, but as you describe, it faded within the day, and wasn't that spotty sort of rash I associate with teething dribble.

She has since had an allergy test that showed up nightshades (tomato, potato) are not tolerated well.

No idea of the cause in your instance, but thought I would share my experience Maybe you could try the same breakfast again tomorrow without the citrus, and see if it happens again, then the next day without somehting else (deduction method?) Or if your DS is BF, maybe it's something passing through your milk, my DD first showed her tomato reaction at 6mths after I had eated a particularly delicious stew loaded with tomatoes and tomato paste.
