have brought a packet of chickpeas and was going to do something exciting for my DS. obviously i will soak them overnight and boil them after to cook properly. but i was wondering is it still safer to go with the tin ones? had heard something about the food poisening risk with pulses?

They're fine imo - never heard anything about food poisoning. If you put a bit of bicarb in the water when you soak them it makes them a bit less farty (and they will be less farty than tinned ones any way). I wouldn't use them whole for a baby that young - bit of choking potential. I make baby homous with a bit less lemon than I would normally use and no salt yum! goes down a treat on toast.

I'm slightly confused about the food poisoning with pulses thing. I've been veggie for over 20 years (can't believe I'm that old) and it only used to be kidney beans that you had to boil for 10 mins to kill toxins but these days that caveat seems to have been extended to all pulses. I use tinned for an easy life.

i've just started making chick pea pancakes out of chick pea flour for my 9mo, seem to be going down well so far.
