DS 8mths can't get the hang of finger foods!

Not sure what size is best for finger foods - too small and he can't hold it very well in his hand, medium sized (e.g. dried apricot/pasta piece sized) and he just stuffs the whole thing in his mouth but then it's too much for him to chew and he gags/cries, too big and he can't get any of it in his mouth.

I end up breaking the food up into little mouthfuls for him and feeding him by putting it into his mouth for him to chew/swallow - which he is fine with.

Is the idea that he bites/sucks a little piece off the bigger piece and eats that? Cos he's just not getting that. Any advice on different foods to try / what's the best size?

With DD, to start with, we used long pieces, so she could hold it in her hand and still have enough poking out to chew on. She didn't get the letting go of the end bit until later. She was about 9 - 10 months when she got really good at it, and now prefers small pieces that she can put the whole thing in.

Humzingers are fab. Can be a little bit sticky and messy to start with, but if he's anything like mine, before long it'll barely touch the sides.

My LO is the same.
He is 8 months too, and just looks at me like I am mad when I try him with finger foods.
