Baby struggling with solids

I'd really appreciate your advice, I have a bf 7 month old who is quite windy anyway and had reflux for the first 5/6 months.

I started him on solid at 6 months but stopped and left it for a few weeks as he wasn't digesting things very well and up half the night grunting and wriggling with wind / constipation. I started again a few days ago and he's ok with pear but I need some more gentle foods that will be easy to digest (parsnip is ok ish, but he's super windy after it and quite uncomfortable).

I'm planning on blw once we're a bit more settled so he can have what we're eating as a family but I need to get his digestive system used to things first. Leave it longer or power through slowly? Any advice would be brilliant xx

Is he keen on rating in general? I did BLW with both of mine, and just sat tgem of my lap during mealtimes. DC1 didn't really eat anything at all beyond tiny nibbles until she was 9 months old, while DC2 would happily eat a full meal at 6 months. So it might just be that he's not quite ready to move on beyond milk for more than little tastes.

Try ripe banana, roasted courgettes. Anything that turns into mush if you crush it in your hand, nothing too stringy. There's certain things you'll have to purée anyway because they're too hard/dangerous to eat yet but you can either load a spoon and get DC to have a go with catapulting feeding them self or you can combine, say they feed them self some sticks of roasted courgette and you feed them puréed spinach on a spoon. Try getting in a lot of bitter green fruit/veg first though as it develops palate to appreciate bitter tastes and not just crave sweet.

Also, there's no harm in waiting if DC isn't ready yet, all nutrients are still from milk atm, food is mainly an experience until they're 1.

Thanks that's all really helpful. He loves food and is really interested in it so he's ready in that sense. I'll look for the meal planner @welshsoph and see what order she suggests xx

Avocado is good becuase it is one of the most nutitionally dense foods. You could try using a nuby nibbler for more slippery foods e.g banana if for LO is doing blw but finds it hard to grip them.

Take it slowly but keep going. Aside from allergies, their gut bacteria have to adapt to digesting food and the only way that happens is to keep giving them food to digest.

I’d just go straight for BLW - they mainly play to start with, doesn’t matter if they don’t eat any.
Just give a bit of what you have and largely ignore them. Eating tiny tastes homself probably better than spooning in loads

Thank you @welshsoph that's really kind 😀
Good points from @WhateverHappenedToBathPearls and @Megan2018 I think I'm probably over thinking it because I'm knackered! I don't remember being this unsure when I weaned my first - she was more straightforward though. I'm going to keep plodding on but add in blw bits to keep him happy and see if that helps.
Thanks to everyone, it's a huge help xxxx
