Hi just looking for some advice on weaning DD who is now 7mo.

For the last month I've been giving her just breakfast either the ellas pouches of single fruits and veg, scrambled egg, porridge, yoghurt or weetabix. I'd like to try add in some BLW foods but not very sure where to start! I did try some soft boiled broccoli but she gagged really bad and then vomited everywhere and it's put me off even though I know it's a natural reaction.

So any tips / pointers of where to start would be very appreciated, also when should I start adding in lunch or dinner as at the moment we're only doing breakfast, thanks :)

At 7mo, add solids as her appetite increases, a few mouthfuls at a time, after her usual milk feed at lunchtime. Most babies will balance their milk intake with their solid food intake well if you feed in this way.
At about 8-9 months, offer solids as part of breakfast, lunch and dinner. From 9 months start giving solids first, then milk.
Don’t overwhelm her with too many food options at the beginning. Just a couple of pieces of food, or a small portion of what you are eating will be adequate. To start off with, think chip-sized because it’s an easy shape for her to grip.
BLW is about making family mealtimes a social experience. While finger foods are important (particularly soft foods at the beginning), there’s no reason why you can’t serve her a portion of cottage pie, a mini roast dinner, or some salmon and roasted cauliflower. Just be sure to leave out the salt. If she hates it, fine, she’s getting nutrients and calories from milk anyway.
She will gag and watching it is horrible. Try to stay calm (or at least look calm) and let her do her thing.

I would start with all pureed food. Definitely not broccoli. I also think Weetabix is too much and way too crunchy for her age at the start. Try porridge. I use Heinz porridge. They have a range from 4 months+. I have a 10 month old who still doesn't take Weetabix. Try and give her food you see she likes. I started with sweet (apple, mango, pear, sweet potatoes) and slowly introduced normal potato (boiled and pureed with some added milk), spinach, broccoli (pureed though) some toast with some unsalter butter(I chew it up for him). I also roast veggies (carrots, parsnips and pumpkin) in the oven and puree it. It tastes amazing and he loves it.

Hi thanks for replies, she's been having smooth puried fruit veg and baby porridge for a month or so now, what I'm struggling with is how to progress her. I'd also like to introduce some finger foods bit unsure how to when all she's ever had is smooth spoon fed food

Toast fingers? There's a cool trick with banana you can apparently do where you press the top of a ripe one + it splits into 3 sticks of good baby fist size.
Avocado cut into sticks?

My DD likes hash browns- big enough to grab but breaks down into smaller pieces easily enough. Fish cakes are good as well. If you make your own you can add different veg and mash those in.

Here is a great BLW recipe, used it on both my DC.
Porridge Fingers
1 or 2 cubes of fruit puree (I made my own & froze it)
3 tbsp porridge oats (not quick cook)
3 tbsp milk

Mix, put in microwave for 2mins & then cut into fingers & cool, before giving to baby.

Ooo that sounds great! I've been braver and she's had toast fingers and also a large strawberry that she held and sucked away at...she loved both!

You can give them almost anything you have, just avoid whole nuts, grape sized things and honey. Mine really liked toast with butter, breadsticks and fruit at the start. Still does tbh. I also save dinner from the night before for her (as she eats at 5, 2 hours before husband is home from work) and offer it. Even things like chilli con carne, I just stir some yogurt in to make it not to spicy, and cook it without salt (add it after I’ve portioned hers up). Some meals are more successful than others.

The gagging stage is quite short. Probably a week for us, including 2 vomits. Now it’s rare. They have to learn to chew foods at some point so you do need to persevere a bit, even though it’s horrid to watch. The advice on exclusively purreeing above is all very well If that’s what you want to do but at some point they do need to move on to chunks, not continue drinking foods!
