I was in the library today and was stopped in my tracks by the sight of a well known parenting magazine with a big thing on the front regarding baby led weaning.

Imagine my surprise when a well known baby weaning guru was quoted as saying she thought it was dangerous and that babies won't get adequate nutrition this way. (Well, not really surpirsed, have heard her say this one before)

I've emailed the mag to say that it is hardly a balanced view when she has such a commercial interest in purees etc.

I await my reply.

PS that's an amazing number of hits on babyledweaning.com btw. Well done!!

disclaimer I am not having a go at anyone who does purees. My objection is the lack of balance in the article.

That article really really annoyed me (I'm not a BLWer btw). I thought it was completely irresponsible to have a 'guru' go on about how finger foods could be dangerous ( could cause choking) and say to introduce them at 9 months, without the article also stating somewhere the department of health advice - which is to offer finger foods from the beginning of weaning.

Finger foods are so important for so many reasons and being made scared to offer them cant be good for parent or baby - sorry really mad!

Also I was under the impression that the teeth a baby has at 9 months have absolutely nothing to do with chewing.

Rant over for now, sorry for hijack!!
