hi does anyone have any recommendations on which first sippy cup i should try my baby with? i am going to try her with water with meals once we start weaning.

she has never had a bottle, so i need one that she will easily adapt from breast to sippy cup with.

thanks!

I'm in the same position and we've tried a few different cups. So far the most successful one has been the Ikea one (green and white with a rigid spout) but she seems to like the Tommy Tippee one too. She hasn't actually drunk from them yet but she's increasingly happy holding them in position! I think one where the water is quite free flowing is good because then they can get some out even if they haven't got the hang of the sucking motion.

We found babycup was the best. I was taken aback by how small it was but it made sense when we used it and my LOs took to it brilliantly.

A doidy cup worked well for us. I wasn’t keen to introduce a cup with a spout as it promotes an immature swallowing pattern.

BizzzzyBee yes I agree! Babycup is also an open cup so fab for that reason too.

We had Doidy cups too, as recommended by the health visitor. They worked well and helped to develop a regular drinking action. They're easier to keep clean than those with spouts and other small parts as well. Glad to hear they're still in use!

Another vote for the Doidy cup. It was an easy transition for my two EBF children. I like that I can see where the water is in the cup, so I can keep the flow steady. It is easy to tip over, though. I don't put much water in to keep clean ups to a minimum.

Later on (around one year old), the Munchkin 360 was great, too. It has the advantage of being tricky to spill so useful when out and about.

We fell into the trap of buying loads of different types. Went with Tommy tippy free flow in the end you just need to persist in offering.

My exclusively breastfed baby refuses bottles for 7 months. He didn't really know what to do with a 360 cup or a beaker.
I'd bought one of those water bottles with a straw to use in labour and while breastfeeding (probably one of my best and most used 'baby buys', and he must have been watching me, as he knew EXACTLY how to get water out of that. He doesn't have to tip it. Only has to suck.

I've bought him his own from Sainsbury's as mine was big and he'd often deposit bits of food stored in his cheeks into the water. I love him but he has no manners.

I agree doidy cups and baby cups both good but both of mine have ended up with the 360 as it’s easy to use, free flow and they can’t tip drinks everywhere (the downside of the other two!)

Also recommend the doidy. My DD used it from 6 months and transitioned to a regular open top cup at 13 months. She could use the doidy by herself (I would just pass it) from about 7ish months. So it was worth a bit of extra effort I feel

My bf 8 month old struggled to take water from anything at 6 months. We did ok ish with the babycup and then suddenly in the last couple of weeks she's just got it with a Tommy Tippee free flow beaker. Also had to get her to drink out of my glass the other day as my Dad had taken her beaker out of my bag to wash up and I hadn't realised and she did amazingly. I'd suggest just picking one you like and let her practice. Expect a lot to go over her shoulder, over the side of the high chair and down her front to begin with!!!

We used open cups as it was recommended to us by our HV . It was messy at first but my son is now 14 months and drinks perfectly from them.

We started with the ezpz tiny cup and I swear by this cup sooooo much . I buy it as gifts for all my new mum friends . It’s
literally my top recommended weaning product .

By 11-12 months we started using the doidy cup and that’s what we are still using . Another great cup I swear by !

Sorry I don’t have sippy cup recommendations.

I posted the same question on a different thread a few days ago.

The doidy cup has been working really well for us.
