Weaning and trapped wind - any ideas?

My LO is (just about) 6 months old and we’ve been weaning for the past week using veggie purées and have offered the odd bit of fruit/veg finger food. He’s just starting to enjoy it and is taking and reliably swallowing a little now rather than blowing it all out with a raspberry Grin We are however having major issues with trapped wind of the fart variety. Last night he spent 2-3am screaming in pain and nothing helped. He’s always suffered with this and we’ve tried all the OTC stuff. The HV and GP haven’t been helpful, just expressing surprise that he’s not already grown out if it... Hmm Does anyone have any ideas? And foods that might help or ones to avoid in these initial stages?

We found that sips of water with the food helped a bit- helped baby burp after eating.

Also I'm not sure if I'm right but our conclusion was that surely their digestive systems are trying to get used to the food, after what has only been a liquid diet up until now. Our baby screamed often a few hours after eating anything substantial but has now grown out of this.

Thanks @TheRhythmlessMan He’s not too keen on his water cup yet but will persevere! We were hoping that he would have grown out if the milk trapped wind before the onset of food trapped wind for a bit of respite but sadly not! Ah, babies, there’s always something Hmm

How often are you giving solids OP?

We’re now doing twice a day @JiltedJohnsJulie He’s absolutely loving it though, always finishes off his ice cub sized portions and I think would happily have more. We have persevered with the water cup and he will now take a little but he’s still not keen. Bit worried we’re heading towards him being constipated now too! He’s still going once a day/other day (which was the same as before) but they’re getting firmer and today we were in rabbit poop territory! I guess it just takes a while for their system to adjust.

I'd not offer solids for a couple of days or if you feel you really have to, just offer once a day and avoid banana, sweet potato and baby rice and give sone high water foods like soup, melon, broccoli or cauliflower.

It sounds as though he's constipated.

Is banana bad for constipation? Even if it's the Ella's kitchen pouches of banana & apple or banana & peach for example? (Wondering if they might have higher water content therefore ok?)

By the way @JiltedJohnsJulie I'm curious if you work in this profession? I've seen you on a few of these weaning threads and you've given lots of amazing advice. Thank you.
