Today I'm planning on making a couple more meals for DD who's 7 months.

A veg soup (with a shop bought veg pack from Aldi) and wanted to try a pasta type dish.

I'm ok with the veg soup I think, know that I can leave it with some texture now, but just unsure about the pasta.

Can I just use the pasta I have in, wholewheat fusilli? Was just going to make a sauce with some tomatoes and purée etc and just blend it all together with some grated cheese, is that ok?

Also... Can I just buy her the little pots of fromage frais? Or do they contain too much sugar?

That sounds fine. We are doing a mix of spoon feeding and finger food and my 8 mo DS eats fusilli pasta with his hands. He coped much better with finger food now he has a couple of teeth but was doing fine before too, it just took a bit longer. He isn't a fan of the tomato flavour though so we do pesto pasta with some cheese. I use full fat natural yogurt instead of fromage frais pots. It's one big pot that I decant into a little tub as and when needed.

Giving them ordinary pasta is fine but wholewheat isn’t recommended under one. It keeps them feeling full at a time in their life when they need a huge amount of calories.

Agree with using natural yoghutrt if you can. You’re right about the sugar level in fromage frais Smile

Some good advice there, thank you! I never thought I'd be as worried as I am about the whole weaning thing.

@MrsL2016 I have to admit I have yet to give DD any finger foods but going to change that today and try her with some toast I think. Hadn't thought about giving her the fusilli pasta while still whole, worried she'd choke! Maybe it's worth a try though....

@JiltedJohnsJulie thank you, I'll stick with the natural yoghurt Smile

If you’re worried about choking, have you watch this video?. You’re local NCT, British Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance or Children’s Centre might run Paediatric First Aid courses too. And, you do know they can choke on purees too don’t you? So avoiding finger foods does not equate to avoiding choking. Smile

If you want some ideas of finger foods and what to feed her generally, have you seen this guide from the Caroline Walker Trust? I think you need from about page 30 Smile

On fromage frais, for DS1 I used to buy the Rachel and Baby Yeo yoghurts - much less sugar than a petit filous.
