Weaning breastfed toddler with cmpa

DS recently turned 1 (how and when did that happen?!!)

He was diagnosed with cmpa amongst many other food allergies at around 6 weeks of age, and as I breastfed him I was ‘free from’ for him.
Although he eats really well I’m still breastfeeding him, only first thing in the morning and last thing at night routinely. Very rarely needs night feeds now.

My question is basically how on earth do I get him to take alternative milks as a drink? He’ll happily have coconut milk (koko is our brand of choice currently) in cereal, in cooking, he’ll eat the yoghurts too, but if we try and give him a bottle of it to replace boob he loses it!
I’m not desperate to stop breastfeeding, the reason DH and I want him to take alternative milks is due to me working late 2/3 days a week, and as my supply has now dropped to meet his lessening demand I can’t pump sufficient amounts of breastmilk anymore. I’ve got a small freezer stash we’ve been using up and sending in to nursery with him (2 days a week) but we’ve very nearly run out of that now!! Dietician has said that milk will be fine for DS to have, and tbh it would make my life a fair bit easier if he’d drink any other milk than mine!!
DS can sleep without boob, doesn’t feed to sleep for daytime naps, and he has a dummy.
Am I just asking too much of him?
Does he really need to have milk as a drink if he’s eating yoghurts etc as part of his daily diet?
I did think about trying a bottle of half and half mixed with my milk but as previously mentioned I just can’t pump a good amount anymore!!
Would appreciate any advice from other cmpa mummies with experience in this field!! He’s my first so I’ve no clue!

If I’m honest, I wouldn’t bother. Neither of mine would contemplate taking milk until at least a good 2 weeks after we’d stopped BFing completely.

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother introducing a bottle at this stage. If your not there, DH can always give him a good supper before bed.

Mine aren’t CMPA by the way, it’s me who has it Smile

A huge well done first of all OP, it is really tough having a multiply allergy baby.

Are you seeing a dietician? I weaned my LO off breast milk and he also had multiple allergies at 12 months. He refused to drink koko milk but I gave it in cereal, puddings and food (I made a koko milk rose jelly). I also gave daily calcium tablets and vitamin D. This I was told was sufficient by the nutritionist who we saw regularly and checked what I was giving was sufficient. I ordered calcium chewy tablets from America but I think they sell them here too:
www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/nature-s-way-alive-calcium-soft-jells-60008577?skuid=008577&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&&gclid=CjwKCAiArK_fBRABEiwA0gOOc0cWIG84ZusTBjmlRsPiIVzreC8L-TWpCNweVLIoODJ_9CL4smW4PxoCNZcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds (I think there's other cheaper non-veggie brands too).

May I ask please, how did they diagnose multiple allergies at 6 weeks? We only got diagnosed after he was weaned although I knew something was wrong!

Also, koko do a chocolate version too and a strawberry version too. These might be more palatable to your little one. As far as I can recall, the dairy free yoghurt didn't contain much calcium but I might be wrong.

There's also a very high amount of calcium in ready brek. If he has that with koko milk, I think that total amount of calcium is sufficient for the day. Our dietician told us to give our little one pudding aftet every meal and not limit sugar. I found that difficult to do tbh.

Jilted thanks x DS will already happily take a bottle, he has one at nursery with expressed bm quite happily. It’s if I put anything else in it he’s not so keen!

IndigoHen wow thank you for your informative reply!! Ok, I’ll try and answer everything here.. 😂

CMPA was only diagnosed for us after we pushed and pushed the dr’s to do something. We were fobbed off A LOT when DS was tiny. I was told I was a neurotic new mum who couldn’t handle a ‘colicky’ baby. HV treated me like I was crazy and told me it was impossible to have a cmpa breastfed baby (yes, really!!).. I’ve worked in the NHS a long time and it was very obvious to me I was being treated like a special case. It wasn’t until we saw a private paediatrician who confirmed our suspicions, he wrote to our GP and HV who then, finally, took my word for it. Was a total nightmare and, if I’m honest, totally ruined our first few weeks with our newborn. Like you say, you KNOW your own baby and you know if something isn’t right!

For the other allergies (currently avoiding soya, oats, eggs and barley. Was also beef at one point but seem to have been reintroducing that successfully so far!) it was all guess work on our part. Once we eliminated dairy we became very familiar with DS’ signs and symptoms, I kept food diaries and eventually cracked it. Could be argued he may not actually be intolerant to all of those things, but since I’ve been ‘free from’ we finally have a happy baby so forgive me for wanting an easier life!! 😬😂

We can’t have readybrek due to the oats 🙄 pain in the arse. We did have a dietician but she discharged us recently as was happy with our progress. Tbh she couldn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know, it’s just the issue of giving DS some form of milk haha. She did say DS should be having ‘proper’ cereal at this age, difficult though as we can’t have barley, which is basically in every single breakfast cereal known to man 😬 I normally use free-from cereals or shredded wheat, but obviously no calcium benefit there x

Have you tried added the new milk an ounce at a time? So if he has 5 floz at the moment, give him 4 floz of ebm mixed with 1 floz of the new milk.
