Weaning

To those who are doing BLW- how long did you bf for?

My dd2 is 23 weeks and I was considering doing BLW. I gave up bf at about 8 months with ds1 and was planning on doing the same for dd so is it realistic to do BLW or would I have to bf for longer?

I realise there are no 'rules' but just wondering what people had done. Thanks.

I started BLW at 25 weeks. DD was exclusively BF until about 23 weeks and than started 1 FF per day. She's 31 weeks (ish, i think) now and we've just dropped down to 1 BF a day (so 4 FF per day).

I believe Aitch (who runs the excellent BLW site :-) foruma fed from the beginning (?) and IIRC there's a good bit on the blog about FF and BLW.

DS was weaned BL-style from the start at 29 weeks & is still bfing now at 35 months. I didn't set out to bf for ths long tbh, but it gradually became the right thing to let him self wean from bm just as it seemed right to let him self wean onto food.....defo helped relax me wrt how much/little DS was eating as he didnt really start having more food than bm until he was 18 months+. I knew he would be getting all he needed from my bm & food was just a bonus/bit of fun for him & I was able to sit back & just enjoy watching him learn to feed himself .

Thanks everyone. So I guess iif /i wanted to swap to formula at 8months that wouldnt interfere with BLW.

Getting excited now!
