Hi,
We have one of these, and I think you could do the same thing as you can do with kettles that have limescale - you put a little bit of vinegar in with the water and it disolves the limescale. Then obviously, you rinse it out and do a couple of boils with plain water. I have meant to do this for a year, but never got around to it, so I can't say it does work, but imagine it would. The only problem I can think of is that the water all boils off, unlike a kettle.
You could call the manufacturers. A bit of a geeky thing to do, but I bet they know, and then you could tell us all.

I clean mine using white spirit vinegar. Put 3 measures of vinegar into reservoir neat. Run on steam as normal. Lots of crusty stuff appears in the food bowl bit. So much comes out that I usually do this twice (just reuse the same vinegar again, minus the bits obviously). Then run through twice with plain water, again 3 measures.

Works great, seems to make it run faster and hotter than when clogged up.

A word of warning though - nothing makes your house smell more like a chippy than boiling vinegar! Do it next to an open window!
