Hi, I know this has probably been asked before but my dd is 1 yr old next saturday and is ff, are the follow on milks better to move onto or should I just start introducing full fat cows milk instead or her regular formula?

She already has cows milk on cereal etc but not sure if it has all the vitamins etc that formula milk has?

She does eat 3 meals a day but still has 3/4 bottles a day too at the moment should these also be cut down after 1 yr old?

full fat organic cows milk, if she is having a good diet, she will be getting all the vitamins she needs from that.

I would go with the cows milk. With a well balanced healthy diet she should be getting all the vitamins she needs so there's no need for follow on milk after a year. (IMO)

I seem to remember my children at one having 3 or 4 bottles a day but if she doesn't have a good appetite for food maybe cut down on the milk. She should be having about a pint of milk a day. Hope this helps.

Just full fat milk. Mine switched over when they were 10-11 months. Buy organic milk if you can.

I didn't worry about their milk intake dropping at all - they were eating a good diet including yoghurts, cheese etc so I just never stressed about it.

Full fat, the cereal will contain iron etc . Bottles sound a lot but if she eats well otherwise wodulnt; worry (can suppress appetite for other foods)

My hv said that follow on milk was just a con by the manufacturers to squeeze more money out of parents. Cows milk is fine. I didn't cut down with my milk loving ds2 as he was eating a good diet so the milk wasn't replacing food.

Cornsilk my HV said the same to me.

Thanks everyone, she does eat well most of the time so not concerned over her appetite, looks like full fat cows milk is the answer and assume she will start to cut down on the amount of milk herself as her food intake inceases further. Thanks again

In fact, mine cut down on their milk when they switched from bottles to cups (around 9-10 months)

I have tried dd with milk in a cup but she doesnt drink much at all that way, did you just keep going and not offer a bottle?

I think cows milk is Ok however. I am often away from home with my DD now 18 months. when i am i use the follow on milk as it does not need to be in the fridge and comes in handy little bottles. just helps me out a bit and i can then make sure wherever we are she has her nighttime and morning milk.

Yes, I just threw the bottles out so I couldn't go back to them. I had a sippy cup around all the time with water in so they could sort of play with it and get used to it. It takes a while for them to get the hang of it I think, but they get there eventually. Mine had a good diet and would still sleep through on a smaller amount of milk so I just kept offering the cup.

dd drinks water from a cup no problem, its just getting her to drink milk from it that she doesnt want to do, dont know if I am brave enough to throw out bottles just yet will keep trying first!

Good point about the follow on milk when out I suppose it is more convenient.
