9 month old baby doesn't seem to want to eat solids

Hi,

My girl is 9 months old, she currently has milk formula through the day, she will also have melty sticks although tries to put it all in her mouth.
We try to give her pureed food although she hardly ever seems interested and just turns her head away.

We have recently tried her on things like scrambled egg and other foods that are a little more solid like sweet potato mash etc

Similar with these foods she will turn her head away.

The GP did say a while ago they thought she had silent reflux which she is on ranitidine and baby gavison for but we was thinking recently that she may be getting a little better with that but not 100%

She has recently had a weight check and they said she was exactly where she should be for her weight and height etc so she’s not losing any weight which is good.

We have recently found that sometimes she will take the odd bit off food if you give it her from our hand and not her baby spoon.

She has also just started nursery which might be good for her watching the other babies.

Has anyone got any other advice though to get her to try and eat more?

Thanks

James

Switch to baby led weaning, your baby is a bit old to be fed with a spoon now. Just give them what you are eating cut into chip shape pieces, put it on the tray of the high chair and leave her to it x

I second not using the spoon. Just offer some cut up pieces on her highchair tray and don’t stress it if she doesn’t take to it anytime soon. My friend’s DS ignored all solids until he was 13 months old. As long as she’s a healthy weight why worry?

Have you tried offering her solids before a bottle, rather than after when she is full of milk?

Ditch the spoon and let her control her intake. Especially with silent reflux - you have to be mindful of what you feed her as it might make the reflux worse ie some things might give her heartburn.

My dd wasn't hugely keen on food until. I stopped breastfeeding just after she turned 1. Mine was happier being spoon fed but it might be worth reading up on babyled weaning as your dd may prefer that. Do a first aid course if nervous about choking.

Just to offer some empathy we're in a similar position with DS (also 9 months). He will now try a fair few solid foods- after literally months of offering but the total amount he eats is very, very small in comparison to his peers. We're loosely following BLW and so I'm not too concerned, however I plan to stop expressing when he's a year a I go back to work and can't really express given the job I do so he'll have to start eating a bit more by then really! Hope your DD starts to take a shine to food soon :)
