Daffodils78 · 24/03/2018 17:29

Finger foods and bottle one (7oz)
Bottle two (7oz)
Baby food or fruit puree, water
Bottle three (7oz)
Baby food and fruit puree, bottle four (7oz)

Occasional extra finger foods or extra bottle

Is he being sick because I am overfeeding him or do I need to look at allergies? thanks Smile

Are you giving milk at the same time as food? Maybe split them so it's not as much all at once. Or give a smaller amount of milk when given at the same time as solids (minimum of 20oz recommended from 6m to 1y)

Can you tell what type of sick it is? As in is he letting out a big burp and bringing some back up? Or trying to eat his hand as he’s teething and shoving too far into his mouth? Has he previously suffered from reflux?

In case it helps, at 8 months my DD did the following:
7am - wake & 5oz bottle
8am - breakfast- something like porridge, toast cut into fingers or yoghurt
12pm - lunch - we mostly did purées so essentially a normal meal mushed up or maybe an ella’s pouch if on the go
3pm - 4oz bottle (she’s now 9 months so we’ve now replaced the bottle with a snack)
5pm - dinner - again a normal meal mushed up followed by a yoghurt, sometimes some finger foods too
6.30pm - bath followed by a 7oz bottle and bed by 7pm
She also has a sippy cup she drinks from throughout the day and we stir the vitamin drops into her yoghurt now she’s cut down her milk.

Its just some of whatever he last had (water, milk, food)

I don't know what reflux is but he has had a little sick up since I started him on formula every time. Not masses, but just a little bit and as he was gaining weight and size etc. I wasn't concerned.

It has got worse recently since hes been crawling and rolling a lot and eating solids

Maybe a little too much milk. I would drop the morning bottle or replace the two day time bottles with 3oz beakers.

Probably is too much liquid, he doesn't always finish them as sometimes falls asleep but obviously now he is having water too he won't need so much.

I worry he's not getting enough.
Not sure why, by the time I have finished washing his clothes he's grown out of them!!

My first was EBF so fed on demand so by the time I had wrapped my head around feeding bottles on a schedule, he was weaning and it was all up in the air.

Is there a reason that you are anxious about him not getting enough? Is he bright and alert at times? Is he meeting his milestones?

If you think the crawling and amount of formula is adding to the vomit problem, could you try something like this?

7am bottle
8am breakfast, something like smooth nut butter or cheese on toast.
11am bottle
12 lunch, sardines on toast, pitta pizza, chicken sandwich with raw veg or fruit on the side.
3pm bottle
5pm tea. Mine liked fish pie, roast dinners and spag bol at that age.
7pm bottle.

So essentially, it’s the same amounts of bottles, just a bit more spread out. As he gets a bit older, you could try swapping the afternoon bottle for a snack and a cup of milk and gradually cut his milk down that way.

Once they are past 12 months the rate of growth slows down and the minimum amount of milk recommended reduces to 300ml between 1 and 2 years.

I have tried cutting down his bottles and upping his food a bit during day, then a big bottle still at bedtime which seems to have improved sickiness a bit.

I was pumping breastmilk to start and had a lot of pressure put on me that he wasn't getting enough, which made me stressed and ended up my breastmilk had too much lipase (soapy)

He didn't latch from birth so I had to hand express in the hospital and it was all a very stressful period. I think since then I have been worried he is not getting enough, but switching to formula he has been gaining weight very well.

He wasn't losing weight breastfeeding so honestly I think the obsession with the number of Oz's I was pumping was unnecessary. He would only 2-3oz to drink 3-4 times a day and would breastfeed once or twice, so wasn't heaps but he was not unhappy and slept well.

Pumping was a nightmare, my first latched straight away and didn't come off more or less for a year so it was a shock when DC2 did not breastfeed easily. I suppose its a hangover from that.

Concerns were from midwife/health visitor and midwives in the hospital. Wish I had listened to my Mothers intuition, not everybody else but shoulda woulda coulda...

Sounds like you may not have been very well supported for quite a while but from what you’ve said, I can’t see anything that would suggest he isn’t getting enough now Smile

I keep thinking his clothes are shrinking in the wash!! May just have to grin and bare it with the sick until he grows out of it/ stops crawling

He sounds lovely. I can understand your anxiety but if you can, try to relax and enjoy your baby Smile

It's hard to relax with vomit everywhere and mountains of washing! But I do see what you mean
