BLW-WOW!

After a month of frustration and concern about lo not getting enough food.Today,I've got my head around BLW.
DD had lots of fruit for dinner, and she really enjoyed it.I think BLW is a fabulous way of feeding babies.I am totally converted, and want to shout it from the rooftops.'This is the future of weaning'.
It's their future of eating really well in life.
Why is it that all my mom friends at school with babies have never heard of it!
I'm going to spread the word.

redbeki, i know what you mean. we have been doing it for 2 weeks and dd loves it and so do i!! my friends are sick of hearing me tell them how good it is. havent managed to persuade anyone to give it a go yet though, and my hv laughed but said go for it. i was so proud of dd shovelling down brocoli, asparagus and plums when my baby friends were round just now!!

I think people are really scared olivo. They are scared of choking, losing control, them not eating enough, and the mess!
This is the way forward I think.

I'm totally convinced and excited by the philosophy of BLW, but am just looking for a bit of support. I started weaning DS at 6 months with puree, which he took to very well and was eating bowlfuls. He then got a bad bout of gasteroenteritis (sp?) and since then has pretty much refused everything, and hates it when I bring a spoon near him. He has been on just milk for the last week, and in the last couple of days I have started (by default until I read about it on MN) BLW, giving him vegetable sticks, rice cakes etc which he is happy to play with and put in his mouth.
Now the questions - He is 7 1/2 months - should I be worried about quantity, or is it still ok to bascially start all over again on the weaning front, and just let him play around with his food until he feels more comfortable with it and gets his appetite back. Its just a worry having seen him really love his food a few weeks ago....

sounds fine sort of starting again like that. you can move onto other things quite quickly though, assuming he's fully recovered. give him little bits of whatever you're having along side his plain veg or fruit.

thanks for the quick response. I will try to start with some more exciting food, but at the moment he is still playing with the food rather than eating, which worries me because of his age. He got over the bug (which was pretty severe) about 2 weeks ago.

v and t, my dd is seven months too and to be honest, i'm not worrying about what exactly she is taking in -she just loves the food and i love watching her. nothing warms my heart more than seeing her grinning at me with a chewed up asparagus stalk sticking out of her mouth

hope your ds finds his appetite soon!

i think that if he's been sick, vandt, then the best thing you can do is give him milk to build him back up. letting him play with food takes a lot of 'pressure' off him as well, which might be nice as gastro things are so upsetting. hopefully he's just taking things at his own pace while he gets his courage back, poor wee lamb.
and can i just say... R O F L at redbeki!

DS ate some toast and avocado this morning so we're all very excited here - I LOVE seeing him enjoying taking control of it all. thanks for all the reassurance - have found the BLW blog very useful and will hopefully add to it once we're a bit more settled.
