Chocolate/strawberry mousses for 8mo?

Hi I'm new to mumsnet so I'm not sure if I have the right place for this! My daughters are 4 & 2 and weaning them was easy. However my son in 8 months and proving to be very difficult! He will only eat sweet things and I know that's normal for a child to prefer sweet or savoury but the problem is he won't even go for any dinner food without spitting. I'm trying to explore more foods, (not savoury I know) but are chocolate/strawberry mousses to much for a child his age? He loves rusk and biscuits but I'm desperate to move him on, however I still need him to eat. Thanks. Smile

Far too much refined sugar

just be patient

Thanks for your reply. I think 'just be patient' is quite insulting. My son cannot live on rusks and other biscuits.

Stop giving him biscuits then. He won't starve, at 8 months old his main food source should still be milk.

Have you tried sweeter veg, maybe sweet potato mash, or soft cooked carrot sticks?

His only 8 months, all of his nutrition is still coming from milk. Fact is some babies just aren't interested in food early on, my ds love food straight away however my dd was 10/11 months when she started to show any real interest.

Keep offering new foods but I'd stick to healthy foods not sugary mousses for one so young and give him some time.

Hiya

I'd probably leave off high sugar items at the min. I know it can be tough though when it seems like they don't like anything.

Will he eat the sweeter root veggies and sweet potatoe etc?

My dd liked veggies sweetened with apple

She eats everything now though after a bit of trial and error on our part

He won't starve, but you have to stop offering biscuits.
If you start down the road of chocolate mousses and biscuits he'll never eat anything else.
Persevere with some savoury stuff, he will eat once he gets hungry enough.

Neither of my ds were much interested in food til past 1yo. Now I can't fill my 15mo up! Try pouches or puree fruit mixed with veg or rice etc.

My daughter didn't really eat anything until she was 1. She'd have tastes of vegetables and a bit more fruit but nothing substantial. After she turned one she got more into it and now aged 3 she has a fairly varied diet.

I would just keep offering savoury and be reassured that his main nutrition is coming from milk.

How is he with fruit? Not exactly savoury but a happy medium for now?

You could try plain Greek yoghurt with a bit of fruit stirred in, still sweet but far less sugar than a mousse.

I don't think chocolate mousse is any improvement on biscuits. You could make your own mousse with strawberries mushed up with unsweetened greek yoghurt, or just offer fruit. But I'd take advantage of the time when your child is on a mainly milk diet to offer a wide range of healthy stuff - if they see you eating it, they'll almost certainly want to try some eventually.

My lo would cry if I gave him savoury but add a bit of cheese and he'd eat
