Weaning

Moving on from purée

Ds is 10.5 months. We had a fairly rocky start to weaning and he didn't really show any interest in eating till about 8 months.
We initially tried BLW, and found this wasn't working so switched back to puree. He tends to have purée meals with tiny lumps, I'm trying to get him on 'proper' food but he struggles with chewing. He's got plenty of teeth, it's just the process of chewing he's struggling with. He can handle tiny bits like peas/seeetcorn, but I'm fairly sure they just get swallowed as opposed to physically chewing. He can handle foods that dissolve easily, so bread sticks and baby based snacks, but other than that he struggles.
We've been giving him soft veg/fruit for dinner but he's having non of it. He can't seem to bite of things, so if I gave him a carrot stick he would struggle to take a bite out of it regardless of how soft it is.
Does anyone have some good suggestions of foods that are the 'next' step from purée.

Oh and he's allergic to milk, soya and egg.

Has he been checked for tongue tie chips? My DS was exactly the same at that age and we later discovered it was tongue tie.

If he's having meals with tiny lumps, are you mashing up your meals? Have you tried him with something like ready break mixed with chopped banana or a cinnamon and raisin bagel spread with pure?

DF porridge fingers are supposed to be good. Have you tought about trying him with an ice lolly? Just freeze some of his usual milk in a lolly mould and away you go Smile

Does he crunch breadsticks or suck them till they dissolve? If he can crunch them, I might try other crunchy food like cucumber sticks, or pepper strips.
